05:30 PM ET 06.24 | The Cleveland Cavaliers are among a number of teams coveting small forward Shawn Marion before Thursday's draft, but the Dallas Mavericks have no intention of trading the veteran. Rumors swirled recently that the team was hoping to shed Marion's $9.32 million salary for next season, which will become guaranteed when he exercises his option and forgoes free agency, in order to free up cap space for a run at Dwight Howard. Because the deadline for that option comes the day after the draft, however, Marion could simply opt out of his contract if the Mavericks traded him somewhere he didn't want to play. That obviously complicates the trade process, as any team acquiring him would demand his approval, which presumably helps explain the Mavericks' lack of interest in a deal.

QUOTE(#3):

I think this was an important deal for Dallas when they were targeting both Howard and CP3. But with CP3 looking like he may stay in LAC I guess moving Marion isn't that important. They can go for Howard this summer and then maybe Monta Ellis next summer.

I don't think Howard would go to the Mavs over say Houston they have a bigger upside. He may as well stay in LA. He won't go to the clips either imo. As far as Monta the Mavs can get him because he opted out of his contract.

Not sure why they wouldn't try for Granger or Iggy heck Bynum Bynum but I don't think Al would fit alongside dirk
