Kevin Garnett expected to retire with Boston Celtics

07:50 PM ET 06.24 | When Doc Rivers' future with the Boston Celtics was in question, so was that of star forward Kevin Garnett. But now that Rivers has parted ways with the Celtics and moved on to the Los Angeles Clippers, it seems Garnett will play out at least one more year with the Celtics before calling it a career. According to Yahoo! Sports, Garnett won't be following Rivers out west. The move is really the only one that makes sense as the NBA is not going to budge on their current stance that no players will be involved in the current deal that is shipping Rivers out west. But while Garnett isn't all that thrilled about not playing under Rivers, he's very loyal to management in Boston and loves the fans there even more. He hasn't officially made a decision yet and he could end up walking away from the game this offseason. Fans around the NBA have been on a farewell tour with the Boston Big 3 for the last two years so it's not like an announcement that he's retiring would be coming as a complete shock or anything.

I don't understand why Stern is wetting his panties so much. The Doc deal is done. If 2 teams want to do a player trade, why the heck does the league want to negate that? It is NOT part of the coach "trade" which by itself is rather stupid.
Stern needs some adult diapers.

I agree, but Sterns did void the CP deal to the Lakers, because a couple of owners wet their panties. Sterns said that he feels that, by the Clippers hiring Rivers, would influence KG to come to Los Angeles.

Trade him to the Bobcats, or whatever the team is calling themselves these days. Let's see Kevin talk trash on that team.

Garnet was an all star last year so I don't see him retiring this season unless he's very physically unable to play. If he comes back next season, he won't be in a Celt uniform. Some part of me wishes he joins a team like Chicago, Knicks or Indiana so they can stick it to Miami next season... if the refs will allow that.

June 25, 2013  08:39 AM ET

He has 2 years left in his contract. What is so freaking wrong w/ 2 teams trading? Both teams think it will help them in the trade. Why can't they move forward if that's what they think will improve their team?

I would like to see the Celtics deal KG to the Heat for a first round draft pick.

I wonder if he would start talking to Ray-Ray again if that were to happen......

Well, if that were the case, then the Heat would have to trade Bosh, as I don't think they have enough room for the both of them!!

K.G., I remembered with you and your high school buddies stole a car and got caught and you were released due to the local churces in the area whom came to your defense and immediately you were sent to Chicago to live with a deciplinarian Aunt; the rest is history.

But players wanting to play for favorite coaches or with other players is natural and has been going on for decades!!!!! No one stopped 'Bron from making his "decision" to go play with Bosh and Wade? See Adelman, he always brings with him his favorite 3-ball shooters. Phil always brought his old players back that knew the triangle offense.

That Stern prevented CP3 deal is a weak argument because that shouldn't have been stopped either. Jeez Stern needs to go away forever or maybe the KGB might want him.

June 25, 2013  05:10 PM ET

It isn't about the players wanting to go play with him, but rather the Celtics and Clippers talking about a trade between players, picks, and a coach which broke the rules. Those two deals being tied together was a completely obvious attempt to circumvent the rules.
