A case for trading superprospect Profar

07:13 AM ET 06.25 | Jurickson Profar is on the move -- to the Rangers' outfield, thanks to the presence of Ian Kinsler at second Elvis Andrus at short. Scouts consider Profar a better defender at second, but the chances of Kinsler resisting a move would increase if questions persisted about Profar's overall ability. And Profar, since his promotion on May 19, is batting .263 with a .686 OPS, albeit in only 107 plate appearances. Trading Profar could be the best solution, particularly with Kinsler under contract through 2017 and Andrus through 2022. But the entire equation could fall apart if Profar sputters. Club officials would lose leverage not only with Kinsler, but also with potential suitors in trade discussions.

Get him out there and up to speed before Cruz is suspended...

They could just trade him for a major league outfielder instead of experimenting with a kid in the heat of a playoff race. You're asking a lot of a very young player to switch positions during his rookie season.

If he is that good of a super prospect let him DH and fill in at second and shortstop.

I'm still PO'd that they didn't address this during Spring Training. If fans saw this coming you know damn good and well the team management did too.

Didn't they declare this guy overrated last week?

Yes they did Moose. I intended to make the same point but you already got the job done.

At this point, Profar has been somewhat exposed...

He's not hitting as advertised and (i just checked) is Striking Out about 20% of the time...

Rangers aren't gonna get what they'd expect or what they would have gotten...

can't trade Kinsler for value either - he's 31 and signed til he's 35 making $15MM per.

Rangers are stuck.

Exposed? He's a 20 year old shortstop batting .263 in the major leagues. I wish my team had an exposed shortstop like that.

If you listened to the Media types this spring, we was supposed to Ozzie Smith, Barry Larkin and a 19 year old A-Rod all rolled into 1 (right out of the box).

Question: Is his Trade value higher now than it was before the season?

Not saying he won't be good (great?) - but he hasn't hit the ground as hoped.

That's all I'm saying.

You might put a lot of stock into what the Media types' expectations of prospects are, but the Rangers and the other Major League ball clubs have other sources, and I'm sure they weren't expecting an immediate Smith/Larkin/Rodriguez impact from a 20-year-old Profar.

Calling him "exposed" after a hundred or so ABs is pretty silly.

My guess is that at this point, it hasn't changed much, if any.

I'm not saying he's going to be a HOF player. I'm only saying any player who can compete at all in the majors at 20 years old is a good bet as a solid everyday player with the potential to be great.

I really don't like seeing a team move a solid middle infielder to the outfielder. If the player doesn't hit powerfully, they won't last in the outfield. If they hit powerfully and can play the middle infield, they are much more valuable playing the position which doesn't normally have power. I don't see the upside of making a move like that. Texas needs to trade either him or Kinsler because they don't have room for both. I'd trade the prospect because Kinsler is only 31 and a proven commodity.

give him a chance ... they didn't give Chris Davis time to develope and looky now ...
