07:24 AM ET 06.25 | With the Stanley Cup awarded, the NHL world can now turn it's attention fully to the NHL Entry Draft. [Gary Miller hosted Joe Sakic] on Xfinity Monday Live, and during the visit got Sakic to acknowledge that if the NHL draft were held [Monday], Nathan MacKinnon would "probably" be the pick. ... Sakic then cautioned that this is NOT draft day yet, and indicated that there could still be a trade of the pick. But he also said the team's "intention" is to take the first pick. So, this is pretty big stuff. Of course, I said several days ago that, based on my info., that MacKinnon would be the guy too, in lieu of Seth Jones. But it's one thing to hear it from my mouth and another to hear from Joe Sakic.

Still wonder if he isn't tipping his hand

You can never have enough defense, Joe. You think you woulda won the cup without the likes of Foote, Bourque or Blake? Not to mention Roy....

Hate these amateur games rookie GMs play. Either keep it to yourself till draft day or ... spit it out. Why all the childish drama? Starved for attention, are we?

Isn't Greg Sherman still the GM?

Yet it's Joe who's flapping his lips all over the place. You'd think he's in charge. Just zip it, Joe!

Just doing their jobs by trying to create a demand for said player amongst the other teams...may bring a desperate offer their way in the days leading up to the draft.

In title only. Joe and Roy will be making the decisions.

If you look at the history of defensemen taken #1 it's horrible. It takes so long for a defenseman to develop they can't gauge if they'll be boom or bust. The Av's? Horrendous on defense. It seems like a perfect fit but Jones is a few years away just physically alone. Personally I hope they take MacKinnon. Don't get a shot at too many players that "could" be another Crosby.

Eric Johnson, Bust. Chris Phillips? Exactly. Hamrik? On his 7th team Jovo? Had a couple good years. Bryan Berard? Best known for an eye injury. Gord Gluzak? Who? Rick Green? Greg Joly? Dennis Potvin? Winner Winner chicken dinner. Barry Gibbs? Your One hall of famer out of all of these.

So who were you compared to? Just kidding. I know he's a punk but I'm sure you would like a player that good on your team.

can't ever have enough elite-level scorers either.

you can do more by stockpiling a bunch of above-average defensemen than you can by picking up spare parts in the top 6 forwards. Just my feeling. I know many here don't agree with me.
