03:01 PM ET 06.25 | There is an interesting situation developing with Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics and it's one that could end in a number of different ways. The least likely way it ends is Pierce returning to the Celtics next season -- something that Boston hopes would in turn lure Kevin Garnett back to the team in 2013-14 as well. Another scenario sees the Celtics trading Pierce to a contender like the Bucks, who have shown an interest in acquiring the forward. But a third scenario sees Pierce ending up with the Los Angeles Clippers once free agency starts, and this happens by way of a trade and a buyout. It's very unlikely that the Celtics do the buying out themselves but they could trade Pierce to another team who then buys him out and sets him loose on the free agency market. At this point, the yellow brick road to Los Angeles is set before Pierce and all he has to do is follow it. According to Luke Adams and ESPN's Marc Stein, this third scenario playing out is very possible.

Czar Stern should veto this...............This type of move could open up a can of worms and would be bad for the NBA........

I can see this happening. However, I also think it would be a shame for Paul Pierce to not retire in Celtics green. He's at the finish line of being a one team player. I think that's would be on the same level as a championship.

The Clippers Are Not LA, Bro.

I thought there were rules in place to prevent players from joining their coach's new team...I believe they have to wait a year....meaning that Paul Pierce wouldn't be able to join the Clippers until after next season, if I remember correctly.
