03:05 PM ET 06.25 | Head coach Kevin Sumlin was instrumental in keeping quarterback Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M prior to the 2012 season. Manziel was suspended for the 2012 season after being involved in a bar fight, and was going to transfer if his suspension wasn't overturned. Sumlin went to bat for the future Heisman winner, and got his suspension overturned before the season. Manziel won the starting job with two weeks to go before the season opener, and the rest is history.

I'm not sure what to make of this. We'll have to see if the young man learns from his mistakes or thinks he can do what he wants and his coach will cover for him.

People were calling him Johnny Misdemeanor after the incident, before the Johnny Football nickname was fabricated.

Happened over a year ago...he has done all that the school/team have asked of him.

What is interesting to me is that he wasn't the starter when Sumlin did all this. Now Sumlin obviously saw something, but hadn't been proven on the field (GG, Case McCoy, etc), so for him to make this stand says a lot to me...

Nah, history isn't over for this kid yet.
What's the over/under that he even goes to classes this fall?
He can't wait to get to the NFL, but could really screw up his future if he doesn't mature quickly.
