Avs will sit out compliance buyout season

07:24 AM ET 06.26 | It seems some under-performing and highly paid Avs can breathe a sigh of relief. [The Avalanche] will not buy anyone out this year. I spoke a bit ago with Joe Sakic, and that's what he said. That means David Jones can rest easy for the time being. The Avs right winger was the odds-on favorite to be the player most likely to be bought out, if any. He has three years at $4 million per left on his deal, and he is coming off the worst season of his career. To buy him out, the Avs would have had to write an $8 million check and send him on his way. Shane O'Brien was another possible candidate, with two years at $2 million per left and questions about his status on the depth chart. But he'll be sticking around too.
