Opportunity knocks for Tebow

07:03 AM ET 06.27 | Suddenly, there is a very large hole to fill in the Patriots offense. As folks like to say, when one door closes, another opens up. In this case, it's the clink of the cellblock closing in on Aaron Hernandez, and the heavens parting for Tim Tebow. The New England Patriots are in need of tight ends after Hernandez was arrested Wednesday morning. Police charged Herandez with murder and five-related gun charges in connection to the death of Odin Lloyd, an acquaintance who was found dead in an industrial park near Hernandez's house. The Patriots immediately released Hernandez on Wednesday. The tragedy of Odin's death and the impact on his family will become a secondary story for talking heads in our celebrity-obsessed culture. Hernandez's misery is a win for Tebow.

There's always a silver lining to every murder.

June 27, 2013  07:29 AM ET

And playing Tight End Tim Tebow!!!

June 27, 2013  07:30 AM ET

He's not going to play TE. There are still like 10 FA TE's out there they can sign on the cheap to fill the role.

June 27, 2013  07:31 AM ET

And suddenly through the darkness of night, a hero emerged!!

Tebow! Tebow!! Tebow!!!

June 27, 2013  07:38 AM ET

Where does the press get the idea that Tebow can play tight end?

June 27, 2013  07:39 AM ET

Saint Timmmmmaaaahhhhhhh to the rescue!

Probably from every talking head on espn saying he'd make a good TE or HB.

I'd like to see some/most of those "talking heads" decapitated.

Like LLcoolAJ has said, there are plenty of FA TE'ends that can actually catch out there. It's 50/50 at best that Tebow even makes the team.

exactly

Dallas Clark
Kevin Boss
Todd Heap
Jeremy Shockey
Visanthe Shiancoe
David Thomas
Randy McMichael
Chris Cooley
Travis Beckum
Cameron Morrah
Leonard Pope
Will Heller

all these guys are free agents. They may bottom of the barrel guys, but at least they have PLAYED TE in the NFL.

June 27, 2013  08:05 AM ET

Herandez?

LOL.

I think I'd rather see if Tebow has what it takes than fish through that slag heap.

50-50? They released their 3rd string TE to sign Tebow.

He's making the team as a QB and whatever position they want to try him out as well.

I'm with OBD, you can pick through the heap after you give TT a chance. Of course, TT hasn't capitulated from his desire to QB in the NFL that we've heard. Last words out of TT were that he believes he can play QB at the NFL level.

Jake Ballard is their 3rd string TE - did they release him?

I'm really curious to see the effect Little Bill and TB have on Tebow...

It will all come out. Tebow framed Hernandez!

They have Gronk, Ballard, Fells, and Hoomanawanui under contract.

He never has, never said he would and I doubt he ever will.

His recovery has been slow. He was never fast, and never a big receiving threat.
