Vandy coach would offer scholarship to 'unborn child'

07:14 AM ET 06.27 | This offseason, UCLA, USC and Kentucky have all reportedly offered scholarships to kids who hadn't yet entered high school, which caused an uproar in some circles. Don't come crying to James Franklin. Vanderbilt's third-year football coach has no problem with it. In fact, Franklin has begun to recruit potential prospects at a more developmental stage. "If I see a 6-foot-6 man walking in the mall with his wife, and she's 6-2 and she's pregnant, I'll go up and offer their unborn child," Franklin said. "I'm not exaggerating. I do that all the time. If I go to speak at an elementary school, if I'm out at a restaurant, we kind of have fun with it. It's about developing a relationship with people. It's about getting them connected with Vanderbilt."

So much for Vandy being the smart school in the SEC.

Come one mods! We get three crappy hoops threads (that we can't decorate), a PSU and Vandy.

Good grief.

Looks like Franklin unwittingly got into the abortion debate.

You know you wouldn't let your kid play at an SEC school. Come on now.

Actually, it's nice to see a successful coach with a good sense of humor.

Ha..maybe Franklin reads FN.

Very short sighted statement. There have been many not so tall yet excellent game winning players throughout the history of the sport.
