What is Rizzo waiting for?

07:10 AM ET 06.27 | With baseball's trade deadline looming, Nationals GM Mike Rizzo mapped out the club's plans over the near term. "We'd like to get a big, left-handed bat. His name is Harper," Rizzo said. "He's on the horizon. We'd like to get a right-handed hitting catcher named Ramos. He's on the horizon." That's a pretty good line, but Rizzo had a deeper point. He wants to gauge how the Nationals' perform as a full, healthy unit before he pulls the trigger on any trades. The Nationals could use a starting pitcher for extra depth (and a possible replacement for Dan Haren), along with a right-handed bat good enough to start occasionally. But before the Nationals do anything, Rizzo wants to evaluate the Nationals at full strength, with Bryce Harper and Wilson Ramos.

Makes perfect sense. Rizz wasted money on Haren though, he appears to be done. Maybe not a bad idea to start Ohlendorf in his spot.

Agree 100%. Haren is done. Off the subject a bit, I love this kid Rendon. He looks about 14 years old, always smiling, always hitting. .354 right now. As many problems as they've had this year they're still 1 game above .500. One hot streak and they're back in the running for at least a wild-card spot. Don't panic..............yet.

I agree with your idea, but they're as far away from the division lead as they are for the first wild card spot.

They're only 5 games out of their division with only one team ahead of them. If I were the Nats, that would be my target - might be easier to get than a wild card.

You're right.
