07:21 AM ET 06.27 | Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has quite a bit on his plate these days, and Nathan Horton sits high on his priority list. "We told Nathan that we'd like him back if we can work it out," said Chiarelli. A source close to Horton indicated to CSNNE.com that the power forward will be looking for a 5-6 year deal in the range of $5.5-6 million per year if he hits the open market. ... That same source indicated to CSNNE.com that Horton would likely take a bit less to remain in Boston, provided he's given the term he's looking for in a deal. Horton is comfortable as a supporting player in Boston, rather than the face of a franchise. Plus, he loves playing with David Krejci and Milan Lucic, making up one of the best forward lines in hockey.

Got news for young Nathan... $6M is not "supporting" player money.

I'm curious as to what a 'bit less' is.

It'll be tough for Petey to shoulder that contract.

...and make that, not-so-powerful forward. Let the part time bludger see what he can get. I know he used to be a hot prospect - but now he's a damaged guy who never really arrived, with more than a touch of RNash syndrome to boot. So what if Cherry likes him. Better than Ryder ain't quite good enough. 3 maybe - Jarome and Jaromir better be thinking a bit more realisticallly too, and Teemu and a whole slew of other guys as well - not a good year to be free agenting - it's a buyers market, if idiots like holmer and slats aren't in it.

Not with the Cap going done.

Sign a one year deal, and wait for the cap to rise as expected. Then get your 25 million.

He's become quite injury-prone.

He's certainly not Nathan "Hale" and Hearty.

But I like him. He could play on my teams any day.

seems pretty steep.

Me too, just not for 5.5 or 6 mil per. 3.5 to 4 million x 3 years. Any longer is foolish.

I think his expired contract was for $4 million per, so you know he'll be looking for an increase over that.

They seem to be a different team without him. So he should be a keeper.

But sanity has to prevail.

Well I've been told I should be happy with 3% per annum no matter how I perform...

I am happy with whatever sheckles they toss my way. As my wife believes me to be overpaid, I am grateful.

For decreased production and injury-proneness?

When did those reasons ever stop a pro athlete from seeking a raise in pay?
