49ers Lawrence Okoye still fighting for roster spot

01:26 PM ET 06.27 | San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman and British Olympian Lawrence Okoye is trying to do the unthinkable and make an NFL roster despite never playing a down of organized football before. Okoye blew scouts away during the draft process with his rare combination of size and speed, and he continued to impress during the team's OTAs. Okoye recently spoke out about his first real football experience and he says that it was even harder than anything he has done in the past. Okoye certainly has the athleticism to become an NFL player, but it remains to be seen if he can actually hack it on the field. The good news for Okoye is that he is already impressing coaches despite never playing football before and now he has all of training camp and the preseason to try to convince the 49ers he is worth a roster spot.

Dude is huge and fast, he'll catch on somewhere for the minimum if not in SF. He may not have football sense, but that can be coached - size and speed can't.

At minimum, they'll use a practice squad spot for him. Worth a shot.

If he's not good enough for the NFL right now, he should try one of the other football leagues, and work his way up.

Depending on how old he is, of course

Maybe there's a spot on The Jets for him?

The 49ers are not letting this guy go.....you can bank on that....

Yep... a specimen like that is worth the investment.

Nope. You have guys who have been doing this most ogf their lives. Many nuances that you pick up over the years can't be taught in a few practices. While he may be big and strong it takes much more than that to play at that level

He's gonna get laid out.

Have no fear "Cincy is here."

I would think stepping right into NFL-scale hitting would change his mind about this. There's really nothing to prepare a complete neophyte for that.
