NFL more concerned about Browns than Pats

07:04 AM ET 06.28 | The arrest of Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez certainly ranks as obviously bad press in New England, and, as one of its flagship franchises, the NFL by extension. But the NFL's bigger concern right now are the Cleveland Browns. The Browns should be one of football's flagship small-market franchises. ... But the Browns now appear on the verge of imploding. [James Haslam's] Pilot Flying J, his source of wealth, is being investigated by the FBI for defrauding customers. Three of the truck stop company's employees have entered guilty pleas. And credit ratings for Pilot Flying J have been put on negative watch. ... Don't be shocked if Haslam unloads his team. It might be the best thing for both the Browns and the NFL.

Jimmy Haslam allegedly duped people out of money, which the other owners do everyday. They don't kill people. We leave that for a certain ex-middle linebacker in the division.

The NFL knows murder is a crime and knows how to respond. Skimming? That's illegal? They are flummoxed as to what their position needs to be. Raise ticket prices? Raise concession prices? Both?

The Pats cut ties with Hernandez an hour and a half after the arrest. Haslam still owns the Browns. Until that relationship ends, the Browns are a PR issue for Choirboy Goofdell.

Best for the Browns in the long term maybe but just more chaos in the short term. :^(

Maybe James H. needs to sell the team, move to Tennessee, and have his brother given him a pre-emptive pardon.

June 28, 2013  08:36 AM ET

This story has legs. Always did, including the Tennessee Gov. Mansion. The Haslam's are also big Republican money players for Sen. Corker and ran Romneys Tenn. coampaign. this could get interesting..

He may need to write one out for himself. All that campaign money came from where?

You owe it to yourself to follow up and find out as much as you can about snippets of information provided as "teasers" by the media. An informed public is our best defense against tyranny and gingivitis.

I would... but I really like my job.

Thusly, I will rely on the keen observations of others.

The problem is this, can a State Gov. pardon someone for a Federal Crime? NO. Only the President can do that. And he is a Bears fan.

This is what happens when you draft owners with character issues. Browns! Jeesh!

June 28, 2013  09:58 AM ET

Haslam should move the team to Baltimore ... oh, wait ...

Will they get a rebate for the diesel for the moving trucks?

A new owner came in, tipped Holmgren's fat *** out of his comfortable chair, got a new impact head coach, found a bunch of unconventional new players. Things were really looking up for the Browns.

I thought it was time to finally retire the song.

Now the owner's under federal investigation, people are saying that he "botched" the head coaching search by bringing in a guy who was already on the Browns payroll for years after they fired him, and the first thing Chud did was bring in Norv Turner, a bunch of those players are facing charges in multiple states...

No fanbase deserves this. Let alone the debacle they've faced since Modell stole their team (after their stadium plan was approved) a year away from a Super Bowl.

Still. Oh well.

June 28, 2013  10:47 AM ET

Maybe Bernie Madoff could buy them and run the team from his cell? I wouldn't think he could do worse,
