07:19 AM ET 06.28 | As it turns out, officially, Ruben Tejada will have to earn back his job. The shortstop, who is expected to start playing rehab games this weekend, will not have his starting spot handed to him when he is ready to return from a right quad strain. Omar Quintanilla has earned the right to play, Terry Collins said. "Based on what we've seen right now, Ruben's gotta earn it back, he's gotta go play, get his game together, get himself in really top shape, and we know he can, but there there is no reason why we're gonna take this kid out of the lineup unless it's fatigue right now," the Mets manager said. ... Quintanilla, who was re-signed as a free agent to back-up Tejada this season, was hitting .300 in the nine games leading into [Thursday's game.]

Major League teams will catch up with your super sub and put him in his place. At the start of the season Collins there was a reason Tejada was starting, maybe because he is better than your super sub?

Everyone should have to earn their playing time.

Tejada took it for granted that he was gonna be the guy at short....came to camp out of shape...and it showed big time....Tejada will never be more than a slightly above average player...and that's if he works his butt off to get there ......

It sounded like a motivational message from Collins to see how Tejada reacts.

Tejada is a .220 hitter with no power and an erratic glove. He'll make a great play, then flub a routine grounder. Why settle for that? Quintanilla is a steadier fielder, wields a better bat, though inclined to be streaky, and is capable of hitting an occasional home run. For now, Omar's the pick.

Collins has never liked the guy and they will probaby trade him and he will shine on someone else's team, Go Figure!!! Terry's time is running out!!!

Omar is 31 year old ex PED user.....who will never be more than what he is....Tejada is a baby with a much bigger upside than what Omar ever had.......

Agree with you on Terry....especially after watching him over manage that loss last night...why did he take out Aardsma...he got the big 2nd out...man on 1st two out...and decides to turn in LaRussa ...righty lefty bs...the guy is barely hitting .250 ...
