Surprising options to replace Bryz

07:27 AM ET 06.28 | This time around, the pre-draft trade chatter may actually turn into a significant swap season, but not all signigicant movement will come via trade. The Flyers have to find a goalie after buying out Ilya Bryzgalov. While they'll study signing Phoenix UFA Mike Smith, many think GM Paul Holmgren wants a short-term solution. Expect the Flyers to call agent Bill Zito to see if Tim Thomas wants to come out of his self-imposed exile. The Isles, unable to sign Evgeni Nabokov, could force Thomas to owe them a year after acquiring him from the Bruins for the cap. If not, if Thomas wants to play for Team USA at the Olympics, the Flyers might be his only option. It's believed Holmgren also held talks with the Sabres about Ryan Miller.

Tim Thomas is flaky enough to fit in well with the Flyers. No sane goalie should ever apply to play in Philly unless they want to their career to come to an end.

It's not gonna matter. They'll still be the Flyers. Desinted for mediocrity!

Philly seems to be where goalies go to die (like goal scorers for The Rangers) Actually, given his fiesty personality, I think Mike Smith would be a perfect fit. Think of him as next on the Favell/Hextall chain

Reimer to Philly. No brainer

They could have a combination of Parent/Dryden/Esposito in goal and it won't make a bit of difference until the defense is improved.

Oh, and Mr. Holmgren, if you really want to add a goalie, I hear there is one in Columbus having contract issues. Hint, hint. C'mon, do what the Flyers did with Parent. It could work again.

They could probably turn that reputation around by acquiring a solid D man or two, so look for Homer to go after forwards this summer

Mike Smith for goalie and Gary Busey for quotes?

June 28, 2013  10:00 AM ET

Why not have Miller in Philly? It would save the Flyers all the work of ruining his career.

June 28, 2013  10:09 AM ET

Miller's best days are long behind him, like most pucks nowadays.

He fits Flyers goaltending criteria perfectly.

I kind of like Alec Baldwin for the quotes. Thomas would fit in well there but can he do what he did in Boston? Not even close.

Well he's no Mike Milbury but that's good right?

June 28, 2013  11:15 AM ET

I'd love to see Miller on the Isles next season. I think it's a perfect fit.

I like most folks who aren't Mike Milbury. :)

LOL - Excellent point!

Jonathan Quick's going to be the goalie for Team USA.

The Flyers should consider Ray Emery. His game has improved and looks like he has learned a lesoon or two about how to behave. It wouldn't them cost whole bunch either.

Philly's doomed - 'til they figure out Hole-mer and Lavulvalette are the problems that need fixing - Snider must be dough-ty.
