Phillies scouting Matt Garza

10:44 PM ET 06.28 | Everyone and their mother knows that the Phillies need to be trading veterans away to re-tool a depleted minor league system. Apparently Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. hasn't gotten that memo. I understand that by scouting Garza the Phillies are just doing their due diligence in the case that they get hot and are buyers at the deadline. But even if that happens, are the Phillies really in a position to mortgage more of the future for a rental player? The answer to that would be a resounding no. If the Phillies are able to stay in the race, Ruben Amaro is going to have to stand pat. Where should the Phillies scouts really be? Scouting the prospects of teams interested in potentially trading for Cliff Lee, Jonathan Papelbon, Chase Utley, and anyone else on the roster that teams could potentially be interested in.

.....reuben told me he has no choice but to keep trying....they play in the weakest division in baseball, so wo knows.....play winning ball in july and august, then maybe they pull a giants or cardianls and get hot down the stretch.....if it dopnt work, then fire everybody and burn the barn down.....

the RUBE hasn't gotten the message of where to pick up his brain either.... Stank as a player, now he is proving on a daily basis how to ruin an entire organization as GM....

Rubes never improve--- they get worse,...

Maybe all the Phillies have to give up for Garza is a pitcher who has a chance to be a closer. Russell has blown all 5 of his save opportunities! Kudos to Bosio and Sveum for finding a replacement for Marmol.

John McDonough must be ecstatic that he quit the Cubbies and went to work for the Blackhawks.

Excepting Edwin Jackson, the Cubs starting pitching has been fairly decent.

the SILLIES need much more than a pitcher--- how about a first baseman that can hit, an outfielder who can catch, a coach that can speak clearly, and a GM who isn't a RUBE...
