Winfield doesn't allow TDs

11:22 AM ET 06.29 | Seattle Seahawks cornerback Antoine Winfield hasn't allowed a touchdown pass over the course of the last three seasons, according to Pro Football Focus' stats and pointed out by Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times. Pro Football Focus isn't infallible with their stats, but they've always been given high marks and there are no obvious omissions when it comes to Winfield's stat listing. One thing the Seahawks absolutely did not need to do this offseason was upgrade the cornerback position. With Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman, the Seahawks already had the best pairing of corners in the NFL, and after most figured they'd wrapped up their free agent signings with Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett, they brought in Winfield.

Shades of Lem Barney.

If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt it is, how in the hell did he not make the Pro Bowl the past 2 years? I know, I know....fan voting. He did make the Pro bowl 2008/9/10.

This season better start soon before the Seahawks hype themselves to death.

101 tackles last year and no Pro Bowl IS crazy. Hmm. At 36 he's not going to move Browner or Sherman out of too much field time (no 22 year old is apt to do that soon, either), but in run packages he's going to be perfect for the Legion of Boom. He hits like thunder.

Good point. Browner and Sherman also, "hits like thunder"!

Amen.

They forgot to mention he only played 5 games in 2011.

Pro Bowl ain't what it once was, and it was never all that much. Just a perk but an all expense paid trip to Hawaii ain't a bad perk.

Been injured a lot the past few seasons. Heckuva player when healthy. He's 5'9" but he hits like a Mack truck and maybe the surest tackler at corner in the league. Lots of miles, though.

Ok the biggest thing we learn from this is that at least one of Antoine Winfield's relatives works for Pro Football Focus. Dang nice CB yes, and I wouldn't mind having him (not as my main guy though) but I'm sure he's given up at least one TD. The article even says this place's stats are not infallible.

Rather fascist of him, innit?

June 29, 2013  11:04 PM ET

Because he plays the slot and other assorted watered down responsibilities.

Soo slot receivers don't score touchdowns? Seems to me that Welker guy might have scored one or two

1. Wes Welker really isn't much of a red zone threat.
2. Most slot receivers are no where near as productive as Wes Welker. On most NFL teams the slot receiver is still only the 3rd-best receiver on the roster.

Not to mention, when was the last time Antoine Winfield even had to step onto the same field as Welker?

He'll see the field more often if the Seattle CB tandem can't lay off the PEDs. I mean uh... Adderall.

LOL, check the Niners roster for playes, that use "PEDs. I mean uh... Adderall". :-)

How many SF players have been suspended for them? None in recent memory that I can recall. How many Seahawks? Quite a few. I would still include Richard "Loudmouth" Sherman in that count. He got off on a technicality, not on proving his innocence.

Clark Haggans (Niners) was suspended last year!!! How many Niner players, were or have been tested the last couple of year??

I'd assume the same as the Seahawks.
