Gay former NFL player felt safest with teammates

10:03 AM ET 06.30 | One of those who will be participating in Sunday's Pride Parade in Chicago is Wade Davis, a former NFL player. Davis, who spent time with the Seahawks, Titans and Redskins in the early 2000s, just came out a year ago and will be joined at the parade by former NFL players Marcus Sullivan and Reggie Smith, who are showing their support. "My time in the NFL had its ups and its downs. The safest place for me to be was actually with my teammates. I didn't really have to think about my sexual orientation." Davis says he has become good friends with Jason Collins, the NBA player who recently came out of the closet. "A lot of the conversations that he and I have are around changing perceptions of what it means to be an athlete. You know the old adage goes "you can never become what you don't see."

Everybody afraid to post on this thread? Come on boys show some Pride. :-)

Throwing the term "NFL player" around rather loosely.

The guy never made an NFL roster. He was strictly a training camp / practice squad player who never suited up for a regular season game.

The media sure does seem to have an obsession with this topic. I wonder why.

Never heard of any of these guys.

Until someone we have actually "heard of" that is any good comes out while active, then this topic has no legs.

LOL - I'm also too lazy to click on that. And didn't he also play for the Raiders?

Kwame Harris.

And he was actually a solid/mediocre starter. Which would probably make him the most notable NFL name outed so far.

Which doesn't say much for the media's cause, considering most NFL fans don't even know his name.

You're too lazy to look at boobs? XD

OK, but I just don't care. Dumb to make a deal out of it. You don't see Cromartie reaching out and making a big deal out of fathering twelve children with eight women living in six states.
