Ryan Newman just wants to feel wanted

10:14 AM ET 06.30 | Ryan Newman's needs are simple. "I just want to race some place where I'm wanted," Newman said. "Where people are happy I'm there." Newman received a one-year reprieve on his contract with Stewart-Haas Racing, where he is currently 18th in the standings. For most of the season, Newman has been outrunning his bossman Tony Stewart. While Newman's resume isn't as extensive as Stewart's, it's respectable with 16 Sprint Cup victories and six finishes of 10th or better in the standings. The 35-year-old South Bend, Ind., native ranks third among active drivers in pole positions with 49. Not surprisingly, team owner Richard Childress said last week that Newman tops his list of potential candidates for the No. 29 Chevy which is being vacated by Kevin Harvick at season's end.

Much better than Kyle Petty ...

He's a jerk! For Kyle Petty he was a want a be driver and Danica is far a better driver than Kyle.

If Newman had a sponsor that would go with him anywhere he went.. every team in Nascar would want him

Nothing wrong with that considering how commercial it all is now.

Speaking of sponsors, Danica would have not been so welcomed if she had not brought one with her.........but lucky for her she does.

Hard to read RCR........he says in one story that he has plans for his grandsons and now the above says Newman is the top contender......I hope it ends up being Newman.

Agreed
If it were my decision I'd let Burton go, put Newman in that car and let the grand kid have the 29.

BTW, I'm trying to see what the logo was on that winning car at Kentucky today. I want to congratulate the manufacturer but the best I can make out is a mushroom cloud for a logo.

Now, now, don't be picking on that EarnTaz fellow. LOL I see Mr. Johnson was a little miffed at Kenseth, supposedly jumping the restart.

Yeah, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Johnson used to be a master of slaggin the restarts so he could get a jump if he was the lead car. Tony is real good at it and so is KB.

Pretty ballsy call by Kenseth's CC to take fuel only on that last caution yesterday. He got his man to the front and Kenseth got them the win.

Well Kenseth is pretty much in the Chase with 3 wins (at the time of the call) so his crew can afford to be creative and attempt whatever they can to win races. But it did get dicey on those restarts, Lagonao in the 22 pulling the moves on the restart that took fortitude.

And if we are talking gutsy moves, what about JJ's comments? If he weren't the Golden Boy i would say there would be a secret double probation fine coming his way, but knowing NASCAR that's not happening.

At least everyone is beginning to recognize the mushroom cloud ... glad to be of help! JJ got JJd ... took nads to do the gas only -- the Cheesehead was up on the wheel.

i wouldn't, burton brings CAT $$

July 1, 2013  03:17 PM ET

if i had to put money on it, i'd say that it will come down to jimmie vs kenseth for the championship

Same could be said about Paul Menard.. for years there were those that questioned why he was in the Cup series.. and ALOT of the opinion was because of his last name
