Jarvis Jones could start at outside linebacker

05:40 PM ET 06.30 | Jarvis Jones is making a strong push to start at outside linebacker as a rookie for the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to the National Football Post. Rookies have a history of riding the bench in Pittsburgh, but Jones may be too good to keep off the field, and the Steelers have a big void to fill after not re-signing James Harrison this offseason. Jones is competing with Jason Worilds for the job. Worilds has performed well in his limited playing time through three seasons, recording 10 sacks. However, his pedigree doesn't quite match Jones'. Jones led the nation with 24.5 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks at Georgia last season before being selected in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

It will be interesting to see how the Steelers defense rebounds after losing some personnel and getting a year older.

Losing Harrison is huge. No easy quick fix for that. Could be wrong, but I see rebuilding mold coming.

Yep,

But, I would bet Pittsburgh starts him in the 1st preseason game till the last one this year, and a couple more as well Baltimore will do the same after losing a few key players.

Yeah,

He's slumming with Cincy this year. [Only see him twice.]

"Good times ahead in Pittsburg...then again, maybe not."

Jarvis is showing some stuff but rookies starting on a Dick Lebeau defence? The only one that I can recall is Casey Hampton. Look for Jarvis to get playing time but Worilds will start

IF Jones starts, he'll be the first OLB rookie starter since Jack Ham. The key to this season is O-Line health and Bell at RB. We need to get back to the days of 34 minutes of possession so the D can just get after the QB and create turnovers.

Not too worried about our linebackers though losing Harrison hurts -- more concerned about the D-line and Troy P's health. If we can get something out of Heyward and Hood, that'd be nice...and as usual, if Troy is on the field, we're immediately better. Looking for a bounce back year from Woodley and continued great stuff from Timmons.

THIS!!!

He may take over the starting job in the secoond half of the season if he progresses fast enough and Worlds doesn't but that is a big 'IF'!!!

I think the Bengals win the division and Pittsburgh will be a wild card with Oakland !

Howdy mr Steeler,

And hope you are doing well.

I fervantly believe, that the Steelers and Ravens and Browns will use thier picks this year,[as well as Cincy.]

In 2011? The Bengals did somrthing they never tried before,2 rookies.

A.J.Green and Andy Dalton. were in the preseason till the last game in the wc.

i see the Steelers and Ravens and of course the Browns, all trying this out.

Not only draft picks but UPFA'a as well. [LNBKR Vontaze Burfict] as an example.

Cincy was desparete and rolled the dice,I imagine alot of HC's trying this out this year,as the Bengals will be doing this thru out the season.

You can't get any experience sitting on yerasses, ya got too get that "Right of passege".going,

And see how it goes.

LeBeau doesn't always make rookies sit to gain experience, and starting isn't a right of passage that he withholds from the unworthy. It's just learning the defensive play calls. It's an incredibly complicated system that takes quite a bit of time to master, like he's basically teaching French.

For the Bengals starting a rookie QB, tossing in a rookie WR at the same time isn't that bad. They're gonna be running a simplified playbook. But LeBeau isn't going to make it easier. Jones will probably see a lot of action, but I think Worilds is going to be the starter, at least on paper.
