07:25 AM ET 07.01 | Credit Los Angeles general manager Mitch Kupchak for making a preemptive strike. [The Lakers] were assured they would get the last word when it came to Dwight Howard's free agency pitch process. Turns out they got the first word as well. [Kupchak] met briefly with Howard face-to-face shortly after 12:01 a.m. ET Monday night when NBA free agency officially opened up, a league source told ESPNLosAngeles.com. Meanwhile, Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey, who was in L.A. at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel according to the Houston Chronicle, took to Twitter to court Howard at precisely the same time. ... Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash will be a part of the Lakers' pitch to free agent center Dwight Howard on Tuesday, league sources told ESPN on Sunday.

I am sick of this crap...............

i hope this doesnt drag on all summer.

I thought that the Rockets would have a great chance and signing Howard but after they have to completely strip down the whole team why would he sign there....

I mean he would be playing again for the Magic teams except with having Harden now....

I always kind of felt the Rockets should go after Al Jefferson. I think his offense would go great with Asik's rebounding and defensive skills. Plus he would be cheaper.

More offensive rebounding off Kobe's missed shots?

Come on Howard, put Cleveland on your list!

July 1, 2013  08:38 AM ET

He'll go to whichever team waves the most dollars at him.

Whatever team he gets traded too will be a stripped down team. Houston is his best option as they can sign him and trade Asik probably for Josh Smith in a sign and trade. This makes the most sense. A guy like Milsap can sign with Houston too but they will trade Asik and Utah doesn't need another center IMO

That's basically the Lakers.

LOL! If Dwight ACTUALLY went there, LeBron would definitely bolt for Cleveland next summer.

They will pitch some of great centers in the history of the NBA played for the Lakers.

Shaq
Kareem
Wilt

Yadda, Yadda you will complete the next lineage of great centers to wear the Laker uniform. We see a statue out front of you. Does he buy it I don't think so because he will have to wait for another star to come or another phenom to be drafted. This is two years away of hope of his prime years

They've been pitching that to him since he got traded to the Lakers. How could that happen if they still have Dumbtonie and Kobe will play for 3-4 more years?

Yeah I will be suprised if Houston is not his top choice. Every other team needs either more pieces to come or some crazy trades to happen.

Lakers had 2 of the top 10 players in the league and where did it get them? Dwight will be 2nd fiddle to Harden. What is Harden's average fga? Harden don't want to be 2nd fiddle anymore.
