07:03 AM ET 07.02 | Credit Detroit for getting on the ball quickly. The Pistons didn't waste time getting to work when the NBA moratorium began at 12:01 a.m. Monday. The Pistons met with free agent forwards Josh Smith and Andre Iguodala on the first day teams could start negotiating with free agents, according to a person familiar with the situation. ... Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said Friday, the day after the NBA draft, that the team wasn't done trying to acquire athletic small forwards and shooting guards after selecting Georgia shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in the first round. And Smith and Iguodala fit the profile. The Pistons also want to get younger veterans. That's Smith. He's only 27, yet he has been in the league for nine seasons.

It's the Pistons! They'll overpay! They've been overpaying in the past w/ less talents so this would be no surprise.

Could be worse.... They could've overpaid for Bargnani like another team in the West. LOL!!!

I'd be surprised if the Pistons make the playoffs. They have a young core of promising players, but no veteran leadership to guide them.

They are in desperate need of some real talented wing players. Down low they are set but the moment they land anyone worth respecting on the outside they'll be a playoff team

Joe is looking for "veteran leadership" from Smith? That's dumber than drafting Milicic.

And paying him max. That's like paying Ben Gordon and Charlie V big bucks! Wait, they did overpay those players...lol

Don't blow your cap again on non-elite FAs joed

The last time they signed 2 quasi-significant FA's was in '09 (Charlie V & Ben Gordon)...

Perhaps some thought should go into it this around...

Apparently Joe D. can make as many dumb moves as like w/o any heat from Pistons owner.

Detroit where players go to kill their carriers. Just ask Ben Gordon how that worked out.

Can't believe that anyone would want the problems Josh Smith would bring to a club for the money it would cost them.

Josh Smith is not a SF. Save your money. Lots of SF in FA and draft next summer.
