Ice thinning under Roenicke

07:08 AM ET 07.02 | It wasn't all that long ago when a report surfaced suggesting the Brewers didn't appear to be giving maximum effort. Well, I heard the same damning criticism of the Brewers from a scout who recently told me, "There's a lot of quit on that team." And the Brewers, at 32-48, now have the second-worst record in the National League, ahead of only the Marlins. It isn't Roenicke's fault that the team is next-to-last in the NL with a 4.18 ERA, or that last season's 3-4-5 hitters -- Ryan Braun, Aramis Ramirez and Corey Hart -- have combined for only 14 homers after producing 98 last season. ... Still, the scout's criticism could be an ominous sign for Roenicke, who is signed through 2014 with option for '15.

That starting pitcher of theirs last night was throwing and ducking.

If they started giving errors to the fielders who muff a play then the ERA would be better. The fielding for Milwaukee horrendous during the series with the Pirates. They gave away the first game.

No kidding - constantly left the ball out over the plate.

They seem to be collectively waiting for MLB to drop the hammer on Braun.

Didn't they win 96 games a couple of years ago?

Sell, Sell, Sell!

Everyone but Braun, Segura, Lucroy, and Aoki should be available trade bait.

Why not Aoki too? Keep Gomez, Segura, Braun. Everyone else can go.

You need to keep Braun, he's the 'connection' after all......personally I can't wait to see that smug ^*#@ get what's coming to him ala Lance Armstrong.

don't blame the manager on this one, the collection of garbage given to the manager to manage should be placed on the GM's head. Roenicke is a good baseball man, clean house with some of the players and let him be a part of the rebuilding process

"There's a lot of quit on that team." Truth. I saw it first hand in the one Brewers game I've attended this year.

In the May 24th 2-1 win over the Pirates, Marte slapped a shot down the left field line in the 6th inning and Braun lazily strolled into the corner to retrieve it. He then casually lobbed it in, allowing Marte to stretch the hit into a triple. A hustling Braun very possibly have gunned down Marte at second, but Braun didn't give a Schlitz.

If it were my ball club and I see that kind of nonchalant play, I send their **** to the minors, I don't care who they are. There are thousands of kids dreaming of being in the Majors that will give full effort.

Yeah, that's baseball. One bad year, SELL!!! SELL NOW!!!!!! Then in 2 years when you're competitive again, you;re trying to trade for the players you let go 2 years ago.

so were talking about Ryan Braun, maybe he needed a fix or something? Can't blame that on Roenicke. Maybe he was going through the DT's?

Roenecke is as safe as safe can be. Fox Sports hasn't got a clue what they're talking about. Melvin, the GM, and our owner knows this isn't even remotely any fault of Roenecke. He's a hell of a good manager. You can't win the Kentucky Derby riding on a Donkey. Our problems are injuries and underachieving starting pitching. Nothing the manager can do about that. If anything Melvin and/or the pitching coach could be gone, but Melvin won't at all either. The smart money is on the pitching coach taking the pipe.

Im shocked Kranitz isn't gone yet. The bullpen must be the only thing saving his **** right now.

You got that right. Kranitz should have been #^$% canned long ago. About as close to worthless as a pitching coach can be.

the one thing every player can do whether in ML or minors, regardless of talent is hustle. anything less should be unacceptable, and take measures this to deal with it. start with benching for a game or two, or send to minors.

July 3, 2013  09:27 AM ET

Roenicke in all fairness has had a lot of injuries to deal with. Braun has missed a few games with injuries as has Ramierez at 3rd and Hart probably will be out all year. However it seems like the Brewers are waving the white flag.
