07:21 AM ET 07.02 | Credit Montreal for making its intentions known. [Canadiens GM] Marc Bergevin, coach Michel Therrien and owner Geoff Molson met with free agent Vincent Lecavalier on Saturday in an attempt to convince the big center to come and play for his hometown team. Bergevin has a considerable amount of interest in making that happen. "From 1 to 10?" Bergevin said when asked to describe the Canadiens' interest in Lecavalier. "Pretty high." Told that sounded like it would be an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10, Bergevin said, "Safe to say. At least." Bergevin attempted to add size to the Canadiens in the NHL Draft on Sunday, but he conceded that the quickest way to accomplish that goal would be by adding Lecavalier as a free agent.

There's one for every sport.

will be odd for him no matter where he goes. Going from a place where hockey is an 'afterthought"....any one of the teams mentioned take it pretty seriously...

I doubt very much the feelings are mutual. Vinnie lived and played in peace Tampa all these years, why would he want to jump into the pressure cooker of Habs fan's expectations and the rabid Montreal media? They're like a pack of hungry hyenas.

Because you only live once.

Go out on a high.

Maybe he felt he was spending too much on suntan lotion

I don't think that's the kind of high he's looking for at this stage of his career. He wouldn't mind another SC ring before he retires but, he won't get it with Montreal.

At least he didn't say "A".

Getting an excuse me SC ring would be outweighed by playing for Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge

I'd like to see it....but agree, if he doesn't click right away, he hear all about it. Maybe he has the mettle for it, maybe not...hope we find out.

as I've said, I'd love to see him in bleu blanc rouge...as long as the term and cap hit are reasonable. If it's going to be a highest bidder situation then I'd rather the Habs just walk away.

because he grew up as a huge Habs fan, because he still spends his summers in mtl, because he has a great relationship with alot of the Habs brass and because Beliveau is his hockey hero and his mentor.

I'm pretty sure that Lecavalier wants to be a Hab. His goal was to be a life-long Bolt because he wanted to build a legacy in Tampa much like many of the original Habs did in Montreal. Now that it's over and he HAS to move on, I'm not surprised that he would want to go out in Montreal. This doesn't mean that he will play here...money counts for alot...but I truly believe that the interest is mutual.

On a side note, I've been in the same room as Lecavalier on three occasions since last summer and on each occasion Lecavalier and Bergevin were in the same circle. They appear to be friends (for what it's worth. It's speculation, nothing more).

I'm not a big fan of Quebec players 'coming home'...but I would always be happy to see Lecavalier in a Habs sweater, as long as we're not talking stupidities like 5 years at 7 million.
