ACC exploring tournament in New York City

07:12 AM ET 07.02 | No longer part of the Big East, Syracuse and Pittsburgh could still be playing a conference tournament in the Big Apple. Atlantic Coast Conference officials were clear why they chose New York City as the location for the official kickoff event for their new-look, 15-team league. "This is a very prominent city from a media standpoint, from a sports standpoint," ACC commissioner John Swofford said Monday. "It has not been in our footprint in our past, but it is now." ... With the ACC officially adding Syracuse and Pittsburgh in all sports and Notre Dame in all sports but football, the league is making it a priority to make its presence felt in New York City. The next step? Playing in New York City. Ideally for the ACC tournament.

A high profile league doesn't play its championship game in Hooterville. New York is the way to go.

I've said this elsewhere -- the ACC playing their BB tourney in NYC is a bad idea.

The biggest problem is venue availability. MSG is tied up for the forseeable future with the Big East (Mark II), and the spanking new Barclay's Center is similarly tied up with the A-10. So, unless they wanted to move the conference championship back a week (which is only done by the "minor" conferences to get some air time on ESPN, et al.), their choices are Long Island or North Jersey, not exactly choice venues. And they'd be physically playing in the shadow of the Big East tournament. Neither way is a way to showcase a major conference.

I might be inclined to go easy on him and let the quad stand. I saw his posts and there was very little objectionableaciousnessicity in there.
