In a stunning end to the Redskins' coaching search, recently hired offensive coordinator Jim Zorn will be introduced today as the team's next head coach. Zorn, 54, is a former Seattle Seahawks quarterback and assistant coach. He never has been a head coach and never had been an offensive coordinator in the NFL before the Redskins gave him that job on Jan. 25.

Oy vay.
Sorry skins fans

February 10, 2008  08:58 AM ET

Cannot knock the guy, he has no history of being in charge of anything of note..You have to wonder what he is in charge of with the Redskins, not his coordinaters, he did not pick them..Sounds like he will lead the team in a prayer before the game. The Redskins are 16 million OVER the cap before the draft..Looks like trouble to me..

so they made him OC then promoted him to head coach? thats not the best idea

February 10, 2008  09:49 AM ET

You can't knock zorn, but we can certainly knock sndyer.

what a b00b.

February 10, 2008  10:01 AM ET

why didnt the other 31 owners have a crisis intervention on Snyder?

February 10, 2008  10:05 AM ET

Jim Zorn, who is this? You go from a Jim Fassel, Steve M. (sp. lol), Colts coordinator, Giants defense coordinator, all to come to Jim Zorn, WOW. I'm a Dallas fan, but I do respect the redskins squad. I do not believe Synder made a good choice and should have consulted with everyone on this decision. This just seems like a synder move, not a organization decision. GOOD LUCK skins, gotta start over again on both sides of the ball. DALLAS will be ready

February 10, 2008  10:05 AM ET

our condolences skins fans.

oh danny..

February 10, 2008  10:07 AM ET

Wow. It's the only time I've felt sorry for another team. This is sad.

He was a facking QB coach last year. A FACKING QB COACH.

February 10, 2008  10:11 AM ET

cjjones, why do the Skins have to start over on both sides of the ball? Yes, we have to start over on offense with Jim Zorn implementing the West Coast Offense with Campbell, but the defense will stay exactly the same. They promoted in house on defense with Greg Blache and nothing will change on the defensive side of the ball. Plus we needed a new offense because things were not working with Al Saunders and Gibbs both calling plays, now we have one guy and one offense.

February 10, 2008  10:29 AM ET

I dont even recall Zorn being a decent QB when he played ?

February 10, 2008  10:40 AM ET

Snyder is one weird guy.

February 10, 2008  11:19 AM ET

from what i understand, it was a riggorous process. Gibbs was involved throughout. they felt like they had their man early, and they wrapped him up with a lessor title. once they finished all interviews, they promoted him as the best candidate. you folks act like they just flipped a coin, shrugged their shoulders and sid screw it. come on,..this is a $1B franchise people.

February 10, 2008  11:39 AM ET

Everyone has to realize that this is Snyders team and he paid for it. We are fans and we can decide who we want to cheer for and who not to. If you dont support his decisions all you have to do is the same thing you been doing and continue to be a fan of the game. we as fans dont have the kind of money that will dictate decisions in the nfl so shut up already

February 10, 2008  11:44 AM ET

Atleast Snyder didnt but the most exspensive coach he could find, like he has in the past. This may not be such a bad decision, alot of coahes from the Holmgren tree have done well. Snyder HAS to work some magic to get some cap space though, thats a top priority!

It does apper that way to most 'Skins outsiders, but maybe you know something about Jim Zorn that we don't.

February 10, 2008  11:55 AM ET

Shocked to say the least. Should make for an interesting 5-11 season.

KP-patron saint of lost causes | 02/10/08, 10:29 AM

Zorn was definitely decent. Good, but not great. Remember, he was the QB who threw to Steve Largent in his run to all the records that Jerry Rice later claimed. Dave Craig eventually took over, but Zorn was there at the beginning.

As for his being hired as the HC in DC, give the guy a chance before you dis him too hard. You never know...he could be exactly what the franchise needs. I will reserve judgement until the end of next season.

February 10, 2008  12:24 PM ET

Agreed that Zorn was a good qb. Plus skill as a player hardly equates to skill as a coach. Many fine coaches were average or worse players. Zorn may turn out to be a fine coach but I wonder how much his assistants will see him as being in charge since he didn't hire them?

February 10, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Zorn may end up being a good coach - who knows? He certainly was a decent QB. But this reeks of that stupid hobbit Snyder not really knowing what he's doing. His track record as owner hasn't been good to say the least. A fool with money is still a fool.
