07:35 AM ET 07.03 | Soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Tyler Bozak appears willing to chase a deal that offers a good deal of long-term security. The Toronto Maple Leafs and [Bozak] continue to negotiate over a possible new contract as Friday's Free Agent signing period draws closer. According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, the most recent response from Bozak's representatives is an eight-year contract proposal averaging less than $5 million per season. In 46 games this season, Bozak scored 12 goals and 16 assists and finished fifth in team scoring. The Regina native finished off a two-year contract he signed with Toronto prior to the 2011-12 season that had an average annual value of $1.5 million.

Good luck with all of that....

Way too long for this guy.... or anyone

Wouldn't go any longer than 4 years in term. This guy thinks he is giving a hometown discount with this garbage? The guy was fifth in team scoring. He is good on faceoffs. Every other facet to his game is NHL - average. If I were Nonis, I would let his agent know that the door is closing - fast.

Going to be a lot of disgruntled players in a couple of weeks, when all the crapola their agent has been feeding them turns out to be fools gold.

Yikes - 8 years for this guy?!

5 years for 8 million makes more sense for this guy.

And its nice to see it's not just Leaf fans that are delusional.

Harsh truths

Paying a #2 guy #1 money does not turn him into a #1 guy

Paying a #2 guy #1 money usually means you cannot afford a real #1 guy when they become available

"Settling" for a #2 guy in a #1 role means, effectively, you are settling for mediocrity. Not championships

Real TOR fans do not want Bozak back at this price (or anything remotely like it)

I wonder how many visits to the mayor's office Tyler Bozak has made lately...

I heard Robbie and his brother are changing the name of their weekly radio show to "Despicable Me 2".

Is this why they call To***to "The Big Smoke"?

Anything over 4 years is asking for trouble. Just ask Snow, Gillis, Holmgren and others.

Dave has this right....you pay this guy that amount for THAT long?... Can't see the Leafs doing that deal. Then again the Pens paid Letang for 8 years at way too much. Agreed someone else may have paid him that for a shorter term...but that much for a guy who quarterbacks a PP and the rest of the time thinks he's a winger? Wings got an albatross in Franzen when it comes to long term deals..guy plays hard when he wants and makes terrible passes at key times. Granted he can go on hot streaks but he's past his milk carton date

4 Years in the League.
27 Years Old (Something doesn't add up there)
Yet to score over 20 goals.

No wonder his camp is pushing for an 8 year deal.

I feel like the NHL should start using a "Franchise Tag" sorta thing. Like 8 year contracts are only eligible for 1 player per year. IE: Malkin gets his 8 year 'franchise tag' contract then Letang can only sign for 7 years or less. Maybe it'll prevent these moron GMs from tossing around these ridiculous contracts.

Unfortunately... Garth Still would have used the Franchise tag on Rickety :-)
