01:38 PM ET 07.03 | The Washington Wizards are expected to offer the team's former No. 1 overall pick John Wall a max contract extension in the near future. Wall was limited to 49 games last season after suffering a knee injury and missing the early parts of the season. The Wizards struggled mightily without their leader and were playing abysmal basketball until he returned. When Wall recovered, the Wizards showed some improvement and the point guard finished the year averaging 18.5 points, 7.6 assists and four rebounds.

Maybe he's a late bloomer?

I bet this is gonna blow up like when the Wizards gave Gilbert Arenas that huge contract. Wall is good, but not worth max.

John Wall says that being injured help him to mature. If that maturity translates to his play in the court I say wtf, go ahead and locked him down. Shows commitment from the team & it also says that we are building a young core for our future. Unlike some of my fellow commenters I don't think this is a bad idea, nor would I equate this with Joe Smooth's contract. Wall does not have the same personality as Joe, nor does he have the same game. Whether anyone likes this or not, this is an excellent move by the Wizards, a team that not so long ago show so much potential.
