07:21 AM ET 07.04 | Independence Day dawns with Dwight Howard still free, at least for now. [Howard] hopes to decide which team he will sign with by Friday, a source close to the talks told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The source also told ESPN that Howard's final decision is "totally up in the air." Howard spent the past few days meeting with teams that are courting his services, including the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he played for this past season, and the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks. Perhaps the most surprising development of the week, sources briefed on the meetings told ESPN.com's Marc Stein, is the strong impression that the Warriors made in their presentation to Howard on Monday.

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed, declaring the United States independence from Great Britain. To this day our U.S. Armed forces have fought to protect us against all enemies foreign and domestic and to ensure we keep our individual freedom and independence from the rest of the world.

If you have the opportunity today (and every day), thank an active member or veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Happy Independence Day!

So what's the deal anyway? LA has to take Lee's contract and one other filler for Howard?
At this stage, Lee may be an upgrade to Gasol, who needs to go anyway.

People knock Cuban but at least he prepared for the last 2 years to make legitimate trade free offers to free agents. Teams like GSW may want him but the fact that they are in no position to deal just shows a lack of planning. That would be a red flag to me.

In fairness, yes, Cuban made all the right moves. IF... he signs Howard. Then it would be a genius move.

If he fails to sign the big man, all he did was kill a championship team and their chance at a repeat.

Gasol would play center.

Thompson, Lee and a 1st is what the Lakers would want.

More tired of? Howard threads? Hernandez threads? Bet a Saint Timmah thread would be welcome right now.

You don't think the Lakers can re-establish the Lee-Duhon pick n roll offense?

I believe that the Lakers waived Duhon. Maybe he is taking his talents to Orlando?

You're crazy if you think that you would get both Lee and Thompson. The Lakers would probably get Biedrens.

Sounds reasonable to me. GSW should pull the trigger.
Thompson is a solid shooter, but he isn't an All-Star. GSW should be able to replace his scoring with someone else. Their 1st rounder is not going to be a high pick.
