07:40 AM ET 07.04 | Seeing Daniel Alfredsson in anything but a Senators jersey may seem odd, but that's not stopping Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli from trying to make it happen. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN reported today that Chiarelli -- a former Senators executive himself -- reached out to Alfredsson's camp and spoke with them "at great length" in hopes of luring the pending free agent to Boston. ... Chiarelli was believed to be interested in acquiring Alfredsson at the 2013 NHL Trade Deadline, but the Senators -- still in the playoff hunt at the time -- did not opt to move their franchise face. The 2012-13 season marked the final one for the 40-year-old Alfredsson on a four-year deal he signed prior to 2009-10 worth an annual average value of $4.875 million.

Or in other words, "pay up Sylvester".

By what? Like ..... three weeks?

Chiarelli's empire is showing signs of stress. Seguin traded? Horton gone? Courting a 40-year old to replace Horton? Serving up a 1st round pick for the acquisition of Jaromir Jagr? Yikes. What is going on in Beantown?

Can't see Alfie leaving Sens. Just using Master Chiarelli for leverage.

I don't think so. Chiarelli probably told him up front, "this is what we are willing to pay you."

The core remains and it is pretty young with the exception of a couple of guys. I think the Bruins will be strong again next year.

I agree Rex....they're not going anywhere. Solid all the way around

Hee..hee

Well Chiarelli won't have to worry about Shero stealing him from under his nose. Shero is too busy trying to hold together what he already has. (Apparently Shero is following the age old American tradition of buying what you want and then worrying about how you'll pay for it later. Hey, it made this country what it is today.)
