Barkley taking over by Week 6

07:12 AM ET 07.05 | One of the more interesting camps to watch when it opens will be Philadelphia's, based on a new head coach and his stable of quarterbacks -- both old and new. While quarterbacks have been overdrafted the last few years, I felt they were underdrafted this year. There is no way [Matt Barkley] should have lasted until the 4th round. The Eagles traded up to get Barkley and Chip Kelly knows Barkley very well, having played against him for four years in the Pac-12. Michael Vick's best days as a player are behind him. He is not an instinctive player and turns the ball over way too much in the red zone. Barkley has the tools to be a top NFL quarterback and my feeling is that he will be the starter in Philly before the season is six games old.

New system, why not start him on day 1?

The key words in this article are "my feeling is...."

Barkley has a weak arm and is coming off a serious shoulder injury. If he does start games, odds are he'll be similar to Michael Vick and not last more than five or six games until he gets injured. Philly still needs the right guy behind center.

6th game? Or 6th offensive series?

Only Time will Tell if he's any good!!!

Does Michael Vick know about this??.. if not you might want to tell him

Plus consider that this story is coming from the National Football Post which is football's version of the National Enquirer. Really only good for reading when on the john.

I'm hoping for game 1 and I'll help pay Vick's ticket out of town.

Wait! You mean he doesn't read this?

This article is one of the weakest I've ever seen. QB's underdrafted? The QB's body of work sucked hog kock.

I'm guessing this Greg Gabriel is in his first season of covering football for his middle school paper.

July 5, 2013  09:52 AM ET

Probably true because likely, Vick will be hurt by week 6.

If you were a hunter who hunted on the same mountain year after year without ever seeing any game at all, wouldn't you eventually decide it's futile to hunt there and move on to the next mountain? I think it's semi-amazing Barkley got drafted as early as he did, considering the fact that he's a USC quarterback. Historically speaking, them dogs don't hunt.

Very good comment. How many QBs "lit it up", in their first year in the NFL??? If Barkley is the Eagles Starting QB, by gam 6/7, then that would be quite the accomplishment!!!

I think Matt Barkley has Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez written all over him.

LOL, you better check the NFL starting QBs before you ever make another comment about former USC QBs. The last time I checked, USC had three former QBs that started in the NFL last year!!! Can you think of another school that can brag about that accomplishment??? :-)

Matt Leinart I can agree with, but Sanchez is a NFL starting QB, that lead his team to the AFC championship game his first two years in the league!!

You have fun with that. Sanchez gets benched this year and will never make it back to being a starter.
