Howard turned health questions on Bryant, Nash

07:17 AM ET 07.05 | Earlier this week, the Lakers made their pitch, with help from Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash, to Dwight Howard. Howard, at one point, asked Bryant and Nash how healthy they truly would be next season, sources said. Bryant assured Howard that he believes he will return to an elite level. ... The discussion, one source said, surprisingly had little to do with Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni. But it did get into some of the other issues -- such as Howard's health -- that had been the source of tension during the season, and the three men had what sources described as an "honest" discussion about them. "I thought it was a very productive meeting," Nash told reporters after the sit-down adjourned. "We talked about last year and how it can be built on."

That's the reason Howard's not coming back.....Kobe opened his mouth and talked about "teaching" him how to win.

Once again, Kobe's assuring that it's KOBE'S team!

I may not like Kobe but of course it's his team! He has 5 rings what does Howard have? Kobe has something Howard doesn't have. A will to win.

Yep my friend. That's the difference between a good player to a champion.

No one disputes this. The issue is where they are in their careers.Kobe has 1-3 years left....and has left his primeDwight has 7, most in his primeNo more speculation......we supposedly get word today.I think Dwight is a game changing player.....but he has flawsIncluding a limited offensive game, and a questionable will to winIf Dwight bolts....its not as horrific as when LBJ left ClevelandBut it would be a major loss

If he bolts and they get nothing then wow that would be bad. At least try to nab Asik and Lin or Lee and whoever from the GSW

I think that's Howard's way of telling LA the reason hes not coming back.

But if he doesn't want to stay is better to see him leaving than another drama for the upcoming years. While he is a great players, the commotion he causes is not warranted IMO.

I think asik is a nice player, but taking on 'role' players will hurt their cap ability going forwardsask is a legit starting center....but he shouldn't and would never be a top 3-4 player on your team, If they are going to take someone back, it has to be a kid with potential or a legit star

Asik is a very good defender and rebounder, but everything on offence (passing, shooting, free thoughts, and going up strong is lacking.

I think Houston can sign Howard and then trade Asik to another team for more assists. Why would they help LA? They don't have to.

QUOTE(#15):

But the drama/commotion, was cause he was up for a contract. There would be no drama, til the next one comes upIts the new NBA....contracts are shorter and there are opt outsSo every 3 years, drama comes up with everyone Hell LBJ #2 is coming this year

I wouldn't be so certain. Even if Dwight's has a contract he can still act out if things don't go smoothly. I know he would have no power to change anything but he could still be a pain in the rear. So you really want to have a guy who really want to be on your team.

QUOTE(#19):

Dwight was a model citizen for many years in Orlando until he wanted to transfer. That"s when this all started. I also believe he will grow quiet once he picks his team and focuses on trying to win.

But in the beginning things went smooth for Orlando. After they lost in the finals was when things begun to deteriorate and the drama started. I just question if he will be happy under the Lakers scrutiny if he is not sure he wants to be there in the first place.
