07:24 AM ET 07.05 | The Huskies, if all goes according to plan, just got a little bigger. Tristan Etienne, a 6-10, 210-pound forward from Abbotsford, British Columbia, gave a verbal commitment to Washington. The Canadian big man is the first 2014 prospect to commit to the Huskies. "Growing up as a kid when I started watching the NCAA, Washington was a school that I took a liking too," Etienne said. "When I realized I had a chance to go D-1, it was the school I was shooting for and the school I was dreaming about. I'm just so happy I had the opportunity to go there and play." Etienne had offers from Washington State, Utah, Portland, Portland State and Boise State. "Washington is my dream school and it's where I wanted to go so when they offered me I decided to get it done."

Tristan Etienne is not a British name. French is more likely.

Uhhhh...he is Canadian.

While BC has its origins as the British remainder of the Columbia District of the Hudson's Bay Company (yes, Google is a good thing), it is settled now primarliy by French speaking, Frenchmen Canadians...

Are you joking? Have you ever been to BC? In the many months I've spent there over the years I don't think I've heard a word of French except on the radio. The population of BC is 9% French, ethnically, and only 1.4% of the BC population is French-speaking. You're much more likely to hear Mandarin or Punjabi than French in BC...

Also from Blazing Saddles:

Throw up your hands
Stick out your tush
Hands on your hips
Give 'em a push
You'll be surprised,
you're doing the French Mistake
Voila!

LOL..stand corrected.

I was going off my encounters in and around Toronto. Figured most Candians were of French background. Do see the possibility of Chinese or Asian as well...big population of them in Alaska...

Funny...they seemed to migrate where it's cold while the SE Asians (Vietnamese, Cambodian, etc) seemed to move along the Southern coast.

Hmmm... sure that's not from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"? You know, the castle siege scene where the French defender throws insults ("Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!") as well as barnyard animals on King Arthur.

No offense to people who pull for Washington, but I believe this is the first time in my life I have ever heard anyone saying they dreamed of going to Washington to play sports.
