07:25 AM ET 07.05 | In the eyes of University of Oklahoma director of athletics Joe Castiglione, the University of Louisville is the one that got away. [Castiglione] expressed regret the Big 12 Conference wasn't able to secure Louisville as a member of the league last summer. "I absolutely did (regret it). There is a piece of me that said that and I did say it," Castiglione said. "I understand why others felt the way they felt, but I don't think there's any secret (we wanted Louisville)." The Big 12 certainly missed out. Louisville enjoyed their most successful year of athletics in school history. ... So why did the Big 12 allow Louisville to slip through their fingers? "We have to respect the nine other members in the conference."

Were they scairt?

Yep securing Louisville would have been a good move from a sports perspective maybe not so much from an academic perspective.

Louisville is predominately a basketball school. ACC is a better fit.

Cincinnati doesn't seem too happy in the AAC (as a conference, it's one "C" short)...

Sad but true.

Four AAU schools left the conference and there is a contingent within the B12 that doesn't want to make matters worse.

It's all Bevo's fault.

Thanks, D2. Good to be back and to see youall. My comments probably don't merit much anyway here on FN. It is July after all for us suffering CFB fans.

The state of Texas has been pushing/helping TTech, with funding research grants and other incentives, and they are an emerging tier 1 research institution. Why, after all that focus dedication and effort, would Tech just sit back and vote a school into the conference with a lesser commitment? Just sayin there is definitely a division amongst the conference schools as to the identity they should be seeking.

Of course we took the one that lost its AAU membership. I didn't realize the extent of the "brain drain" to the Big 12. Glad to see some of the schools want to do something about it. I for one would gladly send the COC back to you guys, since we can't beat them (0-7 so far).

Neb was part of what made the B12 special IMO. Their rivalries with CU and OU were special too. I'd take them back in a heartbeat!

Wouldn't it be nice if we ( the truly knoweldgeble fans ) had the authority to realign the conferences? In why make-believe world, conferences would have no more than 10 or less than 8 members. All conferences would have to play a full round-robin league schedule. Conference champions would all make the College Football Playoffs.
