07:26 AM ET 07.05 | If the name sounds familiar, it's no small wonder for Butch Jones in Knoxville. Dillon Bates always has wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, former Tennessee standout and Dallas Cowboys safety Bill Bates, and he appears to be well on his way to fulfilling that dream. He decided to start by playing at his father's alma mater. The younger Bates, a Top247 rising senior linebacker from Ponte Vedra (Fla.) High School, announced Wednesday that he has committed to Tennessee, choosing the Vols over Florida and Alabama before a national TV audience during Nike's The Opening in Beaverton, Ore.

TinMan will be glad.

Bill Bates was an drafted free agent who came to Dallas and showed a bunch of finesse players how to hit and play with heart.

Way back in the dark ages when the Cowgirls actually had an owner and GM that knew something.

Yes he did...along with Charlie Waters. Great teams back then.

Did you see the latest predictions on which teams will be surprises? Predicting Dallas will be a dud. They mentioned the comment from JJ...Come to practice and the games and see who's calling the plays.......idiot!!!

::flips $5 to svt:: (to cover the preseason with the Cowboys)

JJ is doing what he's always done ... selling hope.

Another squandered draft = no depth.

They've got some really good players at certain positions (DWare, Dez, Witten, TSmith and maybe Romo) but they have no depth.

What I got out of it was JJ was really calling the overall game...coaches had plays to call in certain instances, but they had to stay within JJ's gameplan.

COULD be wrong...but I don't trust anything that AH does..

We can only handle so many Tenn threads. They are just slightly behind Gump for volume over the last 3 months...not sure why

Dallas.

They have Derek Dooley as a coach.
They have Bill Callahan (yes Bill Callahan of Nebraska fame) calling plays on offense.
They have Father Time Monty Kiffin installing a 4/3 cover 2 defense using players better suited for a 3/4 scheme.

It has the potential to be very ugly or it could be great but most likely mediocre again just like the last 15 years.

To me it would be Dallas as I don't really care about the Vols that much.

No offense, guys....just saying.

I thought thug Kiffin was the DC not old man Kiffin.

Does JJ only hire people if they have a well known last name?
