07:33 AM ET 07.05 | So, what will it be? Bytown, Motown or Beantown? Daniel Alfredsson has a decision to make. He can stay home with the Senators or head for greener pastures. Hockey fans in Ottawa were sitting on pins and needs because the Senators captain had not officially closed the door on either the Boston Bruins [or] Detroit Red Wings Thursday night with the possibility of becoming a unrestricted free agent at noon Friday looming large. Alfredsson shut it down for the night at 3 a.m. in Sweden. The Sun has confirmed Alfredsson had telephone discussions with Boston GM Peter Chiarelli and Detroit GM Ken Holland to get an idea of what they are planning, but Alfredsson has maintained re-signing in Ottawa is his top priority.

If he wants a ring, BOS is his only choice.

If he just wants a ring, I'm sure he can go to a European league. If he wants his name on Lord Stanley's Cup, he'll head to Boston.

I think Ottawa is only offering him a 1 yr deal.

Really? Hmmm. That's what they said last year.

He'll be 41, right?

I'd like to see him stay in ottawa, but if he has to leave, I'd rather see it be detroit than boston. Either way, I won't enjoy facing him on one or the other of those teams.

It won't be the same seeing him in another uni, but then again...it is business.

Nostradomus also foretold: The Swedish Mafia is real, and Alfie will be wearing Red next year.

He's played with half-dozen Wings players over the years, and is friends with some. So the Wings have a good chance, but I wouldn't sign him long term.

Looks like it is Detroit, and looks like it's at $5m per.Frankly, i'd rather give that money to Grabovski than Alfie, but whatever.

Grab would fit right in with Dats, sign them both, dump Valtteri Filppula, Daniel Cleary. Keep Brunner though.

Brunner can score, has to be kept.

I liked Filppula but he just doesn't produce enough and is hurt too often.

Cleary has been a warrior but too banged up to pay for.

5.5!? Man, that's way too much. Swedish or not, former captain or not.

The Detroit News makes it 3.5 plus $2 million in incentives.
