09:33 AM ET 07.06 | In what was a roller coaster of a day for the Ottawa Senators, GM Bryan Murray couldn't help but describe the low point. Following a period in which the team lost longtime captain Daniel Alfredsson and gained Bobby Ryan via trade, Murray told reporters the discussion he had with Alfredsson about leaving Ottawa was painful. "It was a devastating, disappointing conversation," Murray explained. "Hard to swallow. "We're going to miss him as a person, a leader and a guy in the community."

Sylvester should have had him locked up. Nobody to blame but himself.

Daniel Alfredsson pulled a Jarome Iginla on the Sens. I don't begrudge him though. He wanted to finish his career somewhere else. He's earned that right. Welcome to Detroit.

I wonder if they'll still boo Iginla in Boston now ;)

They will if he plays the same as he did in Pitt. :-)

Me thinks maybe MacLean talked too glowingly about his time on the bench in Detroit and the "Detroit way."

So in the end they traded one Silfverberg et al for a Silver...

meant it's all part of being a hockey player......or any sport figure, for that matter........when opportunities come your way, one had to park their loyalty and follow their hearts......very simple.

If he plays like he did for the Pens .... they will.

You have to respect Alfie's decision, its no different then Ray Bourque leaving the Bruins for his chance at Lord Stanley with the Avs. He has earned his opportunity, even when it means going somewhere else.

Doubtful considering he put up 11 points in 13 games with them, and in the playoffs was slightly better than a point a game until they ran into the B's.

Imagine how upset the Sens would be if Alfredsson had chosen Boston, and wound up playing for another team in the same div... oh wait never mind.

Little-your wrong, Alfie did not pull an Iggy on the SENS. He pulled a Sundin, at least Calgary got a first round pick going the other way.
