09:38 AM ET 07.06 | With the news that Dwight Howard appears poised to sign with the Houston Rockets on July 10, the Rockets could be looking to add another superstar to the mix. One of the options for the team would be to finalize a deal with the Atlanta Hawks as they look to complete a sign-and-trade for Josh Smith. Bringing the two childhood friends from Atlanta together would be great for chemistry, but it is a bit puzzling that the two men didn't want to play for their hometown Hawks.

If the Rockets land their ship right and sign Smith, Houston will have lift off to the playoffs for several consecutive years to come!

I don't see this as being the answer to the question that will always be D12. Josh is a nice ballplayer but has not developed much since entering the league. He and D12 both have need for the ball as well as does James Hardhead in order to be effective. I won't say that this won't work, but immediate gratification is not something that the Rockets should be looking forward in the near fture.

The Pistons swooped in like hyenas and got what is left of the goodies....

QUOTE(#3):

this aint never gonna happen.. Josh Smith just signed with the Pistons for 4 years and 56 million.. for an annual avg. of 14 mil per year.. a far cry from the paltry 8-9 million Houston was offering..

If I'm a Rockets fan, I would be delighted to see Smith go elsewhere. He is a headache player. Very talented but bad attitude and low IQ.
Since Boston is rebuilding, HOU should explore options to get Jeff Green.
