Rockets' secret weapon in Dwight Howard chase

08:19 AM ET 07.07 | Dwight Howard will become a member of the Houston Rockets organization on July 10, when the 2013-14 NBA season's salary cap is officially set. While many have criticized the Los Angeles Lakers for their methodology in recruiting Howard to remain with the club, little has been said about the Rockets' unique approach at persuading Dwight to head to Houston. A key part of that process was 24-year-old NBA forward Chandler Parsons. "Chandler was relentless," explained a source close to the situation to FORBES. "[Chandler] called and texted [Dwight] every day, even face-timed and would answer every question Dwight could potentially have. We would drive to his house in the hills and talk to him. Basically Chandler Parsons recruited him like Nick Saban and a 5-star defensive tackle; they hardly knew each other at beginning of process."

It just goes to show how badly DH can't stand Kobe. He left 30 million on the table. That's a lot of dislike.

Hell, he would rather pal around texting a stranger than, play with ninja boy.

That says a lot to me.

Pau and Artest are the only players that can stand being around ninja boy. One is afraid if he isn't Kobe's friend they are going to trade him. And other, Artest, is just plain crazy.

If the Rockets win a title soon, this kid deserves a bonus, lots of props and a position with the Rockets post player career...

Totally agree!

OK congrats on getting Howard. But now what? The roster is FAR from being complete. They need a couple more shooters and atleast one more guy that can create his own shot (and for others). Last season it was CLEARLY evident that when Harden sat, the offense came to a complete stand still. That's got to be addressed.

McHale has to buy the kid more minutes so he can make calls to other stars...

Did You Make Collect Calls, Bro?

Parsons did really well w/ his recruiting. He was even in Dirk's Heroes Celebrity Baseball and he was unfazed by Dallas fans saying that Dwight will pick Dallas. He was very confident that Dwight would pick Houston...

Good Job Chandler, by Christsmas time you be unwelcome in Houston, Happy New Year!

Apparently Josh Smith doesn't know how to use cellfones yet. Signed with Joe D LOL, after complaining the Hawks cannot go beyond first round. LMAO.

Generalizing all Lakers fans? Interesting.

Some of us have done nothing, but wish him well. But, the circus is over.

Between McHale and Hakeem, I expect his post play to improve dramatically in two years

Some kids take winning very seriously... Nice going Parsons...

July 7, 2013  10:46 PM ET

Thank goodness for the Rockets he didn't try the Kobe approach in recruiting 101 bro!
