07:11 AM ET 07.08 | Few Cardinals in recent memory have earned as much goodwill as Chris Carpenter, but even he accepts there are no guarantees. "It all has to do with communication and honesty between everyone," Carpenter said. "You come in and everyone is already doing what they're doing. I'm not stupid. You don't want to go in there and ruin something, no matter who I am or what I've done." ... Acknowledging potential complexities, [Mike Matheny] related the frank conversation he recently shared with a pitcher he freely refers to as a superstar: "It could get down to there being some difficult decisions. I have so much respect for you I want to treat you right through this thing. When this all comes together I want to be absolutely behind you. This kind of situation tends to take care of itself."

Quite possibly - no room for him even in the relief role. Man - tough rowing.....

I think he needs to make the call before Cards management does.

I think he is man enough to handle being told they don't have room. He's one of the toughest competitors I know. I think he can still pitch if healthy. But it's the healthy part that is eluding him right now..... There is no shame ending on an injury - but it sucks considering the type of man Carp has shown himself to be.

If he gets healthy enough to be evn 75% of his normal self, he's a rotation upgrade over Joe Kelly.

It seems to be a big 'if' at this stage of his career.

I definitel agree. I'm just saying that if he gets there.....there will definitely be room for him.

They need another starter whether it's Carpenter or someone off the trade market. Joe Kelly is getting clobbered. Miller is the only youngster ready for the rotation. I hope they get this resolved and go get a starter unless they are sure he can return.

There is always room for a pitcher like Carpenter...if he is the old Carpenter.

Once again a anti-GOD person is spitting on GOD. The low grade GM had the cross on the mound removed. The cross was put their to honor Stan the Man. I stop rooting for this anti-GOD team just like that trash team in denver.

So many gods, so few satans. Why is that?
