Giants still in play for Leach

07:02 AM ET 07.10 | Most recently, we heard that the Dolphins led the Vonta Leach sweepstakes. [Miami remained] the favored landing destination for the three-time Pro Bowl fullback and that he's simply waiting out the next few weeks to see if another team ups the ante. Although that may be true, the Giants are still in the running, according to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity to speak freely on the situation. Leach has not dropped New Jersey from his list of potential destinations, the person said, which is good news for the Giants, who watched Henry Hynoski go down this offseason. Leach is a bruising fullback who has only played on a handful of teams that did not end up with a 1,000-yard rusher.

A thousand yard rusher is about as impressive a Pro Bowl player nowadays. Not a real accomplishment anymore.

I agree that the significance of the 1000-yard plateau is reduced in today's NFL, but consider that half of NFL teams did [b]not[/b[ have a 1000-yard rusher last year, including Miami. The Giants had Bradshaw hit that mark last year, but he's gone.

I definitely understand the interest, and Leach is solid, but your offensive scheme has to take advantage of his talents. The Ravens didn't want to pay that much money to a player who would be on the sidelines for a significant amount of offensive plays.

He would be a nice compliment to the Giants running game.

There's got to be a reason that teams are having reservations about picking this guy up.. Is he injury prone?

Probably because his agent is trying to squeeze every last dime out of this.

I'd rather squeeze ---------->

I hope he is not waiting for GM Reese to up the ante.

Is the Vonta Leach sweepstakes more exciting than the Brett Favre version?

And the year after he left Houston; Foster gained well over 1,000 yards without him. I'm not saying the guy isn't good. But to make it sound like he is the main reason any running back on his team gains 1,000 yards is just not accurate. Seems like Rice did just fine in Baltimore in hte years before Leach showed up there.

Sure, but Baltimore has always been about the fullback. The reason they picked up Leach was because they had released Le'Ron McClain. In the years before McClain it was Lorenzo Neal, Ovie Mughelli, Alan Ricard, and Sam Gash.

He's usin the Jints to get more money from Miami!!!

Leach is not needed as a ball carrier. the Giants have two good RBs in Brown and Wilson. What they need is a good blocking back to help with an OL that is weak in that area. I still hope the Giants land him.

July 10, 2013  11:15 AM ET

I realize he's a good fullback, but with all the Leach threads on FN lately, you'd think he's the second coming of Jim Brown.

Something is missing for all the agent articles with Leach. Either the interest really isn't there, or teams are waiting for a week of camp to see how their current stock shapes up.

Don't see the need to overspend on a band-aid. Send out Pascoe until Hynoski is healthy.

July 10, 2013  07:17 PM ET

6' 260 is a beast of a running back, hope the Giants don't get him.
