07:15 AM ET 07.10 | With the end of summer in sight and football on the horizon, the University of Texas is now down a redshirt freshman quarterback. [Connor Brewer] has elected to transfer, a source close to the team confirmed Tuesday night. Brewer, from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Ariz., redshirted last season and was one of several quarterback candidates jostling for a spot on the two-deep roster for 2013. It appeared Brewer was getting caught in a numbers game, however. With David Ash secure as the starter, the backup spot is expected to go to either true freshman Tyrone Swoopes, a mid-term enrollee who was one of the highlights of the spring, or senior Case McCoy. Additionally, the Longhorns have a commitment for 2014 from highly regarded Jerrod Heard of Denton Guyer.

Guido, Doc, FJJ...where'd you send this guy?

Or, does he just miss the beautiful golf courses of Scottsdale?

July 10, 2013  08:22 AM ET

Is he a pocket guy? dual threat? what? and any idea of where he's looking to go?

July 10, 2013  08:25 AM ET

Yes. No. University of Florida

2014 commitment from Jerrod Heard. I still want to know who the hell decided to move Guyer down to 4A. And into my HS's district.

Okey-dokey, then. We'll take him.

Don't think he had the mobility to be in an up tempo/zone read offense.

THERE's the bottom line issue right there. Didn't have the speed for DB, so had to go.

I was really disappointed in CB's throwing ability. In the practices I saw, didn't show much in arm strength or reading D's. Was the no. 1 QB out of AZ, but it appears he benefited from the system, think Leach's QB's, or the comp in AZ would compare with TX 2-3A. He was buried in the depth chart and would never see the field with Ash, Swoopes and Heard coming in.

This will be known as Harsin's folly.

Yes. No. Huh? No idea but maybe he will go to Arky State with Harsin. Don't think he had the mobility to be in an up tempo/zone read offense. Not sure he had the arm strength/velocity for this level. Was fairly accurate though. Was a Harsin recruit for a Harsin/Boise offense. Not a fit for Applewhite offense. Likely would never see the field between Ash who will be on campus for 2 more seasons plus Swoopes/Heard who are DT QBs and a better fit for the new offense.Personally think this may have been suggested to him but who really knows. Maybe he saw the writing. He could end up at USC where his swimming sis recently transferred or maybe the other UT where his volleyball sis just signed. Bottom line is 2 QBs in 2012 class signed. 1 transfer and 1 position change. Now leaning on the lone 2013 QB who is considered a project and a 2014 signee. Maybe they go after another in 2014. Who knows. QB depth this season. Ash-starter, backup either Quack McCoy or true frosh.

one thing I do like is its an unconditional release, he can go wherever he wants

So sorry, you not get him.

Well, if he's got a noodle arm and can't read a defense, then you can most certainly have him. See if Stoopsie Jr can turn him into something good.

Are you inferring that HS football will be vastly more entertaining this season than Bevo's futile efforts?

HiYa, JRM. Long time no see.

Then, he won't fit at UTK, or any FBS top five school for that matter.

I'd send him to the SEC where he can just hand off the ball or throw shallow slant routes all day long.

:)

Maybe they move Overstreet back to QB position for depth? Or just roll with Swopes as the #2 and the DuckMaster as #3?

Your thoughts/preferences?

Personally I'd like to see the ball in Overstreet's hands but not necessarily at QB so I say leave him alone.
