07:13 AM ET 07.11 | Thanks to his full release from Texas, quarterback Connor Brewer has become a free agent, of sorts. [Brewer] said that he is open to colleges, including Arizona and Arizona State. Then-ASU coach Dennis Erickson and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone offered Brewer a scholarship before his senior season at Scottsdale Chaparral. Arizona also sought Brewer, who called UA "not a bad option," especially considering his high school coach, Charlie Ragle, is an assistant coach there now. UCLA enters the picture for Brewer now with Mazzone the OC there. Brewer already has heard from Alabama, Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke and Tennessee. Brewer said he is wide open to the recruiting.

I hope the best for Connor Brewer. I'm not sure if he ever got a decent chance to develop at UTx. He was recruited to run the Boise State offense which is a run-based vertical passing approach. Ash's vertical passing was very hit-and-miss and some of the vertical routes in Harsin's offense were altered with enough of an angle to allow for Ash to judge the receivers' speed. We never really got to see if Brewer could run it straight up in a game situation.

It now appears UTx's ever-changing offensive philosophy is migrating towards a VY read option approach. Brewer is a pocket passer and should do well at a place where sacrificing his body on 2nd and 7 isn't a foregone conclusion.

Good analysis Doc.

Plus, he (and many others) hit there about the time all those with the "overentitled" attitudes were peaking. Everyone got scarred with that IMHO.

What you are referring to happened before Brewer showed up. Mack cleaned house and the "overentitled" were demoted/cut/transferred - that's why UTx has started so many youngsters for the last 2 years. Just clarifying.

LOL the Arizona Republic article opens with:

"Quarterback Connor Brewer ... said that he is open to colleges, including Arizona and Arizona State."

They used "Alabama" and "Notre Dame" in the headline to get attention/garner readership.

Would agree. I can see him at UCLA since his brothers both played baseball there. He has ties to the school. One of the more athletically talented families I have ever seen. 5 kids. 3 boys, 2 girls. All 5 signed to play for D1 schools in their sport. 2 at UCLA for baseball with 1 now in the bigs, 1 sister in swimming at Tx then transfer to USC, 1 sis signs to play Vball at UTk and of course him. Impressive group. Similar to the Shipleys family.

yep, as I mentioned yesterday, glad that it was an unconditional release. Seems like a good kid, from a good family and hope he finds his place

That is extremely impressive!! Having 1 kid to perform at the D1 level is amazing, but to get 5 to put in the time and effort (and still have a family!) is astounding...especially with the range of sports being followed. The time needed for swimming and volleyball proficiency is huge!

Apparently, the Bama bag men are not limited to recruits only!

Hmmm... RoboMod must be a Domer fan. I alluded to Manti Te'o and this virtual girlfriend and got #16 whacked for my pains. Let's get something straight, RoboMod: there are no sacred cows here on FN, and I violated no rules of good taste in my comment. To reiterate:

"Better than a no-faced 'cyber' girlfriend." There. I wrote it again.
