Fitzgerald needs Palmer, and he knows it

06:59 AM ET 07.12 | The vision should give Cardinals fans reason for hope. Larry Fitzgerald exploded out of his second break on the post-corner route and Carson Palmer hit him in stride, dropping the throw in the bucket 45 yards downfield. ... That they were connecting Wednesday at Fitzgerald's annual summer workouts at the University of Minnesota is a sign that, at least philosophically, the Cardinals' greatest star and most important offseason acquisition are on the same page. "Look, this is a big year for me, coming off my worst season as a pro," Fitzgerald told USA TODAY Sports. "I know Carson wants to play well this year. This is a huge year, and we're leaning on each other. It's simple as that. I need him as bad as anybody."

It'll just be Fitz's luck that one of them get injured this year. Here's to hoping the Big Dog gets to eat.

Could be Palmer's best year since his knee injury against the Steelers in the playoffs.

July 12, 2013  07:53 AM ET

Too bad Carson won't get enough time behind that bad OL to throw that far downfield during the regular season!

One thing for sure - it's his last chance to salvage his career.

Fitzgerald could make even Carson Palmer look good

Hopefully, Arians has a way to design some schemes that will minimize the Cards weaknesses.

Still.... the darkest of all dark horses.

Indeed.

Fitzgerald needs an NFL caliber QB. Carson Palmer may still be able to pull that off. Carson desperately needs Larry Fitzgerald to try and rehabilitate his reputation.

Remains to be seen. Mornin', Mangler.

Didn't Palmer have a really good OL when he was so "great" in Cincy? Never sure why, after all these years, the importance of the OL still gets ignored when it comes to how well a QB plays.

July 12, 2013  09:37 AM ET

Arians did a great job with a rookie last season. I think he'll be able to get some good productivity out of Palmer this year.

And it doesn't hurt having the league's second best receiver as a weapon either.

Very true. And Arizona started 4-0 last year, with Kolb looking all-pro behind a good line until injuries turned it into swiss cheese. So who knows; maybe this year Arizona looks respectable.

You bet he needs Palmer. He is closing in on that $50 million guaranteed and noooobody is giving him a contract close to what they gave him.

Here it is. Wow!

8/20/2011: Signed an eight-year, $128.5 million contract. The deal contains $50 million guaranteed, including a $10 million signing bonus and first-year roster bonus of $8 million. Fitzgerald is eligible for an annual $250,000 workout bonus in years two through eight. 2013: $5 million (+ $10 million option bonus due 3/15), 2014: $12.75 million, 2015: $8 million (+ $8 million roster bonus), 2016: $15 million, 2017-2018: $14.75 million, 2019: Free Agent

You're not setting the bar very high with that suggestion, though.

The success of any offense starts with the OL. You take that beast mf'ing OL away from the Cowboys in the 90's, and you take away their SB rings, and Emmitt Smith finishes with 4500 career yards.
