Why Mavs' biggest catch picked Dallas

07:01 AM ET 07.12 | Dallas had hoped to be introducing Dwight Howard around this time, but the franchise has moved on. The biggest catch in the Mavericks' summer free-agency expedition is point guard Jose Calderon. ... Their starting center is to be determined, with stopgap candidate Samuel Dalembert meeting Thursday with the Mavs. That isn't too big of a concern to Calderon, who agreed to a four-year, $29 million deal. ... What makes the Mavs attractive to free agents? "You've got an owner who really likes to win. When you know you've somebody who is going to do whatever it takes to win, it makes you think about just coming to Dallas. You know he's not going to wait 10 years to try to win. He's going to always to try to get the better opportunity out there. That's what convinced me."

And they have a nice team plane

His assist numbers should fit in nicely.

Won't take you long to love to hate him!
Especially on defence or when he has an open shot and comes up short

As long as he can get the ball to the big German guy (which no one at PG seemed able to do last season), I will overlook his deficiencies.

he shot 49% on the season and 46 % from 3.....he will get a lot of open looks on the pick and roll with Dirk...

Also dont forget they were starting Mike Freaking James last year....lol

He is really good at that but will frustrated you at key points of the game.

But you could have had Bynum who Cav's fans on the Bynum thread are calling the "2nd best center in the league."

Funny how we were labeled as fools for having made that claim a couple years back. Anyway, your loss? Or not...

At least you remember that you did make that claim not so long ago ... and of course only stopped when he wasn't on the team anymore.

Getting rid of Tyson was the dumbest thing they could have done. They lost their identity on the defensive side of the ball.

Yeah you need to be able to score, but defense wins titles.

Doesn't matter how many points Dirk and Jose score if they can't stop their guy. Tyson covered up any weakness Dirk had. That's long gone.

No doubt I made and stand by that claim. However, since he left my team. He hasn't played at all. Ergo, ranking for last season is nonexistent.

sometimes you gotta overpaid when nobody wants to join your team.
