Is Johnny Football taking too much heat?

07:15 AM ET 07.12 | For all his successes, Johnny Manziel is nearing the territory where he has become, first, a lightning rod. The vitriol aimed Manziel's way is almost comical, and it begs the question. What has the reigning Heisman winner actually done to turn so many people against him? ... So please, someone tell me what the Texas A&M quarterback has done since winning the Heisman and robbing Bob Stoops (of his dignity) to merit so much clean, old-fashioned hate. SEC Network commentator Paul Finebaum told ESPN's College Football Live, "I'm sad to say he's trending toward becoming a punch line." If Manziel's the punch line, what's the set-up? All he's done is follow the greatest season ever by a redshirt freshman with the greatest off-season in history.

This is FN. Mehtinks the thread topper is as good a set up for pages of shizzle as we've seen in some time.

This is just a product of the hype. He won the heisman, which puts him in everyone's spotlight so anything and everything he does is scrutinized and overanalyzed.

Yes.

Exactly. You could go back a couple weeks to the last JFF thread and just copy/paste everyone's comments. Save a little time.

I'll tell you part of it. Getting a parking ticket and then whining about walking in his shoes.

July 12, 2013  09:16 AM ET

he is the product of winning the heisman and alot of hype comes with this. however, as a freshman he has not handled it as well as some that have won in the past and did not have to return to their university the next year.

but flashing loads of cash, $25,000 rolex watches, tweeting crap that makes him and A&M look foolish and other idiot stuff only adds to the hype that he seems not to want. many winners have the capacity to "stay low" and not pretend they are Mr. Hollywood. manziel did not. but all of this does not warrant the hate out there for him.

i'd guess he's had his moment of fame.... and it was a real good moment. but it's unlikely he will have this type of success in future seasons. lots of heisman winners that ended up a bust..... i'd wager johnny ball will fall into this very same category.

Maybe it's winning the Heisman when he didn't deserve to? Life will be much different this year since the best player on that team went to the NFL.

July 12, 2013  09:26 AM ET

As long as the Heisman remains in the SEC, everything's cool.

I have a lot of sympathy for famous people. But not all famous people get hounded and pounded. There are ways to deal with your fame. You get back what you put out.

I keep expecting a 'Horns fan to simply post, "Aggie," or "Sheepmolester," or "Ovine Abuser."

Funny how there appears to be more than a few parallels between the antics of Justin Bieber and Johnny Manziel.

Go figure. There's been plenty of mud-slinging and slander thrown in UFM's direction about Aaron Hernandez in recent days as well, but nobody (except a few Buckeye fans) seems offended by that.

Capricious, knee-jerk response by RoboMod. Some whiny-butt makes a complaint, and the comment is whacked before it's even read or analyzed for possible offending content. Great scheme if you're an FN poster out to get someone else you don't like.
