07:18 AM ET 07.12 | Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis is on the road, and with damage control on his agenda. Gillis and goaltender Roberto Luongo have yet to speak in person about the shocking draft day trade of Cory Schneider, the man Luongo was dueling with for crease time the last two seasons. The GM isn't expecting any great backlash when he and Luongo chat in his Florida home, or once training camp rolls around. "I'm sure he'll remain a professional and he'll act in the best interests of his hockey team and himself," Gillis said in a Thursday interview on TEAM 1040 radio. Most importantly, Gillis intends on clearing the air about the situation to ensure his starter feels wanted by the Canucks.

as opposed to "I've done my best to get rid of you, and nobody was stupid enough to pick up your contract, ... so now we're stuck with each other."

Not a huge fan of Bobby-Lou, but I have to side with him here. Gillis is one of the most arrogant tools in the game. He doesn't have many friends in other press boxes. He completely bungles this one. He was delusional in thinking Luongo (and his contract) could fetch a King's Ransom, when his first job should have been to get him out of town. Having Loo-Loo in the background last season completely derailed the team, put incredible pressure on Schneider to outplay him (always the best recipe for young goalies, right?) and created a media circus that still hasn't gone away. Now, he does a 180 and trades his golden boy, and is stuck with his first problem? I can't believe he could have handled this any worse.

You will have to wait until Lou gets back from the WSOP.

Oh wait, he was just knocked out on Day 2.

Gillis wants a sit-down with Luongo

Of course he wants a sit-down. He's not a stand-up guy.

Isn't Gillis a day late and a few million dollars short? They deserve each other. Let the circus continue.

Maybe he'll give him a 214 year contract extension? Should get everybody calmed down again.
