07:19 AM ET 07.12 | Ilya Kovalchuk's retirement left many speechless -- but that's not Jeremy Roenick's strong suit. [@Jeremy_Roenick:] Uwill all see now why I have talked negatively about kovalchuk !!! He doesn't want to play for the devils and he'll end up in the KHL!!! ... Kovalchuk is as selfish as they come!!!! I'm appalled. I feel bad for all u devils fans. U deserve better than that!! ... I am shocked that kovalchuk would do this to the devils and their fan base!!! Devils lose so much w this decision it's scary!!! Selfish !!!! ... I'm so irate right now. I feel bad for Lou lamoriello. Gave a 100 million dollar contract to a player who has no care for the NHL! ... Hey Ilya hope u live comfortably in Russia w the money u made from the 23 million u stole from the devils Again I'm right in my analysis.

Dude, relax. Kovy just did Devils fans a major by stepping out. They have salary cap room for years now because he took his albatross to Leningrad. Guy was selfish, floater and never won a thing in his 10 years in the league. See ya.

QUOTE(#3):

How can there be a cap hit if he's retiring and leaving the money on the table?

There's an annual cap-recapture charge believed to be $250,000 through 2024-25. Whatever that means.

Thank God for lawyers. And doctors. Maybe they can get a pill for JR.

JR was geting crushed by many yesterday, apparently he went against the union or something in 94? I don't know the details, but people were firing back at him fast and furious

I don't think anyone seriously cares what JR thinks.

I find it refreshing that JR speaks his mind. Not a canned cliche machine.

Not saying I always agree, but nice to hear someone honest for a change.

So your saying a lot of people took shots at JR?

Look at that picture--doesn't that look like a trustworthy source of analysis? "What, me worry?"

Still, I've got to side with him on this. Lame Kovy. He could have done this before FA period, instead he didn't engage and floated as usual.

QUOTE(#11):

A 1/4 million isn't going to hamper the Devils cap situation.

Nope. Just lack of talent.

All true. But, everybody's going to rip him just the same, and deservedly so. I bet Lou's been sacrificing chickens and goats in the bowels of Prudential Center to the hockey gods ever since Vanderdopeybeek forced him to sign Kuntvalchuk for that kind of money. So, in a twisted kind of way, Lou must be dancing for joy to have that contract gone!!

Jeremy Roenick: "Again I'm right in my analysis."

Sure! If you say so, J.R. You're always right.

Wonder if he walked into JVB's off and said, see, this is why I handle the hockey stuff, and you are welcome I fixed this.

Loophole Lou

It's as if some people are treating this as something more than a business. The sooner people get the idea of "loyalty" out of their heads when it comes to sports, the sooner people will stop getting their panties in a bunch over crap like this.

You're right. But I still don't like it.

'j.r., speak up, I can't hear you with my stanley cup rings plugged in my ears', said Kovalchuk never.
