Cowboys adjusting roster for two tight end offense

10:19 AM ET 07.13 | The Dallas Cowboys have released fullback Lawrence Vickers, not a surprising move considering their recent emphasis on an offense with two tight ends. The move announced Friday came after Vickers had back surgery following the season and worked only on the side during offseason practices. Dallas is unlikely to carry a fullback on the roster after loading up on tight ends behind Jason Witten. The Cowboys drafted Gavin Escobar in the second round and signed veteran Dante Rosario. Second-year player James Hanna is also in the mix. The 30-year-old Vickers played in all 16 games in his only season in Dallas, finishing with three carries for 11 yards and 13 catches for 104 yards. He had two tackles on special teams.

Cowboys adjusting roster for two tight end offense

Translation: More people to potentially catch one of Romo's ducks.

July 13, 2013  10:28 AM ET

Or, more people to block for demarco murray as the 'boys tell romo to hand off more

In the years after Elway, Shanahan tried loading the Bronco's roster with Tight Ends to make up for other offensive shortcomings. It didn't get us back to the playoffs.

The two tight end offense has worked great in New England....wait, Nevermind!

I think it was Demarco Murray who said he could run for 2,000 yards with the Cowboys. You know, I don't think that's going to happen.

It could. It will just take him 2+ seasons to get there.

Sounds good, let's see if they pull it off!!!

If the defense doesn't play better it doesn't matter.

Well the defense couldn't get a whole lot worse so more bodies to block on the o-line is at least something.

Why is the Boston Herald reporting on Dallas >

Well at least you got rid of Ryan. Now I guess you will have to put up with Monte Kiffin. Seeing how well the Dallas Defense does this year should be the most interesting thing to keep your eyes on this year. Don't be surprised if Lane Kiffin is the next Dallas Head Coach in a couple of years.

Duuude, what did Dallas ever do to you to make you say such a vile and disgusting thing. What's next, are you going to wish Chucky on us. Your a heartless puppy humper. I bet you eat cute little otter baby livers for breakfast. Man that's cold.

There's a dang good chance of that.

Secure the ball Bro is priority with Romo as the QB.

I guess no real news is good news.

I'm no Cowboy fan, but the flack Romo takes should be directed more toward the turnstile impersonators that call themselves an offensive line. More bodies up front in the form of TEs probably will help, even if one lines up as an H-back.
