07:03 AM ET 07.16 | Oakland may have itself a set of cozier confines -- well, in theory, anyway. [The Raiders] want to build the NFL's smallest stadium at their current home, but the team might not be able to cover even half the costs, city and Alameda County officials learned Monday. A team-commissioned study found enough demand in Oakland for a 50,000-seat football stadium that would cost roughly $800 million, said David Stone, whose firm, AECOM, is advising Oakland and Alameda County officials on stadium construction. Stone said the Raiders have proposed contributing about $300 million toward the project. If the NFL agreed to provide $200 million from its stadium loan program, that would leave an estimated $300 million shortfall, Stone said Monday during a meeting.

When the excavation starts and they come upon a 15th century coffin, surrounded by dirt that doesn't look like it's from California and wrapped in heavy chains, sealed with a cross and with a wreath of garlic on top of it......don't open it.

Definitely small by Texas high school standards.

No problem, just stick it to the tax payers, they won't mind. That only comes out to about $1 from each person in the country to help out these poor millionaires who are down on their luck.

Oakland had the lowest average attendance of any NFL team, but they still hit 54 kilofans last year, and 59,000 the year before. It seems silly, unless the whole idea is to limit supply to drive up ticket prices.

It's probably all they can afford.

Al Davis or at least his look alike might step out of it...

I'm sure the taxpayers won't mind picking up the tab...

That's because the other attendees are wearing orange jumpsuits and won't be available for 5-10 years...

Al Davis?

Are they trying to discourage people from attending football games?
